Hey, FAWM friends! I’m Alyx.

I’m a #queer, #agender / #nonbinary, #AuDHD human with an increasingly impressive beard.

I generally write folky/acoustic songs, mostly on guitar, but sometimes when I get stuck I reach for other instruments, particularly things in the mandolin family. I have quite the motley assortment to choose from here, though. I've been writing songs for over 25 years. That's wild.

All of my recordings will almost certainly be iPhone one-takes. I'd love to do some proper recording of some of my backlog someday, but FAWM for me is about getting the songs out rather than getting them polished. Occasionally in the past I've gotten excited about playing around in Garageband, though, so who knows?

I live in St. Paul, Minnesota with my husband, @fecknom, who is also a musician, and our doggo, Nova, a husky mix we adopted in August 2021. We are a houseful of #neurospicy weirdos (yes, I am including the dog in this), and I love that for us.

I'd be hard-pressed to name a single genre I don't like at least something from. I enjoy listening to everything from classical music to death metal.

2025 will be FAWM number eight for me! I'm in my final year in seminary currently (I am an agnostic animist, going for a Master of Arts in Leadership in Spiritual Direction...because we religiously traumatized queerdos deserve space to make meaning out of Big Life Stuff, too), so between that and full time work, there's not a lot of extra time for creativity. But since February is the official songwriting month of my year these days, I'm going to try, and I'm very much looking forward to hearing what y'all come up with, too!
