I hear scratching at the bedroom door Picking at carpet making it snow They hear me moving my toes Then the creaking floor lets them know

We go downstairs they always win Hoping for kibble but hearing tins Rubbing my legs making collars ring Just passing time before digging in

We’re breakfast buddies In the early morning hours When the sun is still asleep Dew blankets all the flowers After my first cup of coffee I feel eyes staring at me Saying I know you’re having oatmeal Save some remnants for me

After we have finished Get cleaned up from our feast We snuggle on the Lazy Boy And start to fall asleep Dreaming of our days ahead And the next time we will eat Then I feel their claws on my wooly socks Causing me to shriek – Oouh!
