Skipping Stones
Skirmish: Misunderstood (@richardmasters)Liner Notes
The Skirmish prompt today was "Misunderstood". I thought about my struggles with depression from a young age and how I never thought I'd be happy or even survive into adulthood. But now I'm thriving! So I wanted to write about that. I had been working with a student earlier on the skirmish theme "that's not normal" that suggested using opening tunings. I suggested she do a really high capo and tune the high E string to D, which I thought sounded so cool that I wanted to try it myself. I finished writing the song within the hour time limit but had to teach a music lesson before I could record it, so here we are :) #ambientguitar #reverb #folk #electricguitar #femalevocal

Lyrics
Verse 1: I used to feel so brave To share the mess I made Now I feel afraid Of who I was before I became myself Or else before I fell Before I understand We’re all born good
Chorus: Took a long time to learn how to live a good life Took a lot of work to learn how to lead with a smile Those early days skate away Like skipping stones across the waves You have to let them go To see them fly away
Verse 2: Never thought I’d get this far Or find my guiding star Guess you don’t know who you are When you’re stuck at the start Of the road With a long long way to go It’s hard to know Until you’ve made your home
Chorus: Took a long time to learn how to live a good life Took a lot of work to learn how to lead with a smile Those early days skate away Like skipping stones across the waves You have to let them go To see them fly away

Lovely song. Great guitar and vocal lines. Beautiful vulnerable lyric. 👏🎶
This is lovely! You have a superb voice; both voice and guitar nicely mixed with just the right amount of reverb..so kudos on the production, too. Welcome to FAWM.
Beautiful - your voice is stunning and I love what you've done with the guitar and the way your lyrics take one through a journey
Wow, your voice is absolutely stunning! The chorus is beautiful, and the entire piece is filled with heartfelt, touching imagery from beginning to end. I really admire how your gentle delivery lets the words shine through so beautifully
