To the Dawn

The second song in my honky tonk bird trilogy. I can't say this is the honkiest of tonkiest, but I could see it in the midst of a honky tonk set to give the exhausted dancers a slower waltz. This one's about a pair of great horned owls getting ready to nest again in the winter. (I swear the next one won't be in C again...)

Lyrics

A cold frosty evening The sun’s sinking low We’ll soon be together Like old times you know Oh you know, oh you know

There’s work to be done And lots of long nights With you as my partner We’ll sure get it right Get it right, get it right

Chorus: ‘Cause we’ll see it through to the dawn And we’ll just keep moving on

A prince in his palace Can sit on a throne But he’s poor as the next man If he’s all alone All alone, all alone

Good fortune and favor Has brought me to you We’ll try again next year What else can we do? Can we do, can we do

[Chorus]

I'm planning to buy the whole honky tonk bird album when it comes out. Meanwhile, I love the use of repetition, and the last verse especially.

@jddietz

this is really lovely! i especially like knowing that it's about a pair of owls, and the repetition at the end of the verses is a nice motif. the drums sound really nice and i like the guitar solo a lot too.
