Skirmish: What would you do if you ... (@lizziee)

Liner Notes

I wasn't intending to post this yet, it's just the "demo of the demo" where I figured out what I needed for the arrangement. It's rough (check out the noise floor at the end!) with doubles and falsetto from different scratch takes, before I settled on a rhythm or phrasing, but 🤷‍♂️

It sounds better than I expected it to at this stage, and with "gym bro" grade lyrics, it's all about the execution. I don't want my #firstfruits to get as ripe as it would take to polish this like I want. It's a little #funky and a whole lot of #disco, but I'm not going to let this set-back break me.

Inspired by the Skirmish prompt even though it went in it's own direction. It should be pretty obvious why I couldn't' get it done in the hour.

Lyrics

[Verse] What could I do, baby, it was too big for me. I thought I had it, but I couldn't reach My hands grew shaky, I could feel the room shrink Face to face with a moment... I blinked

[Verse] The air was heavy, it got hard to breathe My jaw was locked, grinding down my teeth Pounding in my head made it impossible to think and when I stared into the moment...I blinked

[Chorus] Vision blurred, Stage went dark Fire died Lost my heart. Faced the mirror Nearly blind, I still saw something in my eyes. Dropped the ball crashed and burned Belly up Table turned In retreat But deep inside, I still had something in my eyes

[Verse] I'm not, the man baby, I had a chance to be But I got laid flat out when I should have peaked. I could talk the talk, but it always was a a trick. When I faced that situation... I blinked.

[Verse] I came crashing down, and I'm questioning. What I'm really made of, Who I think I am. Tossed in the grind, but I didn't have the grit When I stared into the situation... I blinked.

[Chorus] Vision blurred, Stage went dark Fire died Lost my heart. Faced the mirror Nearly blind, I still saw something in my eyes. Dropped the ball crashed and burned Belly up Table turned In retreat But deep inside, I still had something in my eyes

[Bridge] It hit me hard but I survived. (...still have something in my eyes) Despite the pain I'm still alive. (...still have something in my eyes)

The fires out but coals are hot. (...still have something in my eyes) and I have enough for a spark. (...still have something in my eyes)

Stumbled hard and lost the beat. (...still have something in my eyes) But not ready to call defeat (...still have something in my eyes)

My reflection showed the truth. (...still have something in my eyes) I've still got the fight to prove (...still have something in my eyes)

This has an incredible groove. The lyrics and refrain fit all so well together.

GD that's a hell of a bass line. Bringing the funk hard out of the gate! And what a wild ride in the bridge. This song is funk beauty personified

Yes sur! Funky goodness. Such a serious groove. I like that! If that don’t make you dance, nothing will.

I dug the read and loved the funk (in song) mixed with the warbles and all that good raw in this tune, @spazsquatch , and how every overlay played fantastically genuine in all its music glory. Everything glued together here adds fab depth and entertaining appeal to this super-cool song!
