FOR JANEY

Liner Notes
I posted the no-demo lyrics of this song last week. I found the chords I wanted an hour ago and made this ropey #acousticonetake. I will develop the song to include some riffs that echo Beatle-y sounds. For Janey is inspired by the death of a close fiend. She was one of a tight band of friends who lived and worked together in hard times in Belfast in the early 70s. As if poverty wasn't enough - the conflict in Northern Ireland was reaching a peak. That's the backdrop but the song is just about love and friendship and little things that bind us
Lyrics
‘FOR JANEY’
When the bitter biting winds Barged down off Black Mountain And we all shared the bed Only for the warmth
We talked about the Beatles Beyond the wee small hours Dissecting every line Drawing deeper meanings
I only had a few chords Blackbird was beyond me Yet we sang it over and over As if it was our own
My heart filled with love That life was so simple My heart filled with love That life could be this sweet
Never wasted time nor breath Wondering what would follow Though cards revealed nothing We knew storms impended
When death is all around We didn't talk of tomorrow Lived each moment that came It got us through
My heart still fills with love That life was so simple My heart still fills with love That life could be so sweet
When death was all around We never talk of future It might be a land That we won't reach
Bonds were stretched But never broken Life would not stay with you And I am left behind

Love these lyrics, And underlying sadness but such a beautiful expression of love and shared memories. Lovely playing and singing, some tasty little licks in there. 😎
@beckymusic @phonopath @josie_allen Thankyou for you comments. I really do appreciate them
Bonds were stretched but never broken. What a beautiful tribute, Paddy.
Beautiful, looking forward to hearing this at the Soundhouse on the the 1st of March
Love this such a sense of what it's like to be young/alive and in love with life in contrast to a world that is determined to tear itself apart.
Having enjoyed the original lyric it's great to hear it with a good musical setting. Such a poignant write but also leavened with the Beatle-esque riffs. And I chuckled at the reference to "wee small hours", not least as the Beatles enjoyed doing stuff like that too 😊
