Writer's Block

Skirmish: Write about the experienc... (@robinleaf)Liner Notes
#skirmish prompt from @robinleaf on the writing experience. Sometimes the prompt resonates (like this one did) and you can crank out something acceptable in an hour. Other times (like my post Ordinary Objects) it's like pulling teeth. So you wander a bit, stare out the window and hope a SuperHero arrives. #acoustic #singersongwriter #rock #guywithguitar #meta
Lyrics
WRITER'S BLOCK (c.2025 raspberry33)
VERSE 1: I don’t know how you do it A skirmish every day There’s pressure when you write against the clock Ideas stored for rainy days Vanish in a drought It’s the mid-month February writer’s block
VERSE 2: I pace around the kitchen, climb the cluttered stairs And watch the digits tick another tock The fishing tank is empty, the notebooks torn apart Diagnosis: it's surely writer’s block
CHORUS: Focus, focus It’s not hocus-pocus Though a magic wand would be handy Get out of the box and then get back in again Take another sniff of that brandy
VERSE 3: There are ordinary objects with an inner life But not so easy getting them to talk If I stare out the window until a super hero appears Will they rescue me from writer’s block?

greatttt. that first line got me hooked. so cool man. so much creativity is flowing out of you man. I really enjoy listening. The drums are marvelous, the way you sing those lyrics and them lyrics are great man. i really enjoy this. also, impressive how much production you got to incorporate in one hour... incredible!
Great job! This song effectively describes the challenges of trying to write when a song just won’t come.
I enjoyed this, both lyrics and music (and really liked the electric piano interlude). Esp. like rainy day ideas vanish in drought, and LOVE There are ordinary objects with an inner life/But not so easy getting them to talk.
Wow! The description! The tale about lull and distractions rings very true.
This is so fun! And you're right, some songs just practically materialize with very little effort, while others really make you work.
It always impresses me how you get such a complete sounding demo out in such a short time. I barely manage to get a quick 'n' dirty phone recording done haha. I really like the pace of the song and the rhythm with which you deliver the lyrics. "And watch the digits tick another tock" is my favorite line.
I dig this very much, especially the verses. Would be cool if you added some bass and some harmonies, at least in the chorus.
Loving the musical vibes here. Great description of an inside peek to the songwriting experience. As Guy Clark once said, sometimes the song writes you.
