CREATURES

Liner Notes

I have a lot of fun performing with my good friend @songmistress as Grinning Scarecrows. We don't write happy songs, and love doing our dark materials with two voices and an acoustic guitar. I'm always dredging through my memory for things that that have made me shiver. The opening verse refers to a scene from Day of the Triffids 1962, which terrified the young me. When I came up with guitar part a few minutes ago, I made this unrehearsed #acousticonetake changing lyrics and chords on the fly. It's very rough but I like the feel of it

Lyrics

‘CREATURES’

Screaming brakes Doors sigh open They flop out strangely Flood the platform

Like cold, dead things Freshly risen Lurching, awkward Gasping, rasping

Sepulchre masks Hidden features Gurgled breath Loathsome creatures

And I have no fear Though I know Who they are come for And I have no fear For they say they love me For they say they love me For they say they love me Isn't that enough for anyone?

Ooh, very disturbing (that's a compliment by the way!)

Oh dang, yeah--Day of the Triffids was terrifying. My kids laugh, but they don't get it. We had better imaginations. Fabulous storytelling. Love your sound--so good.

I remember the 1962 movie too - great film and yes it scared me too, must have been about 12 when I first saw it (at school of all places). Extra kudos for getting "sepulchre" in there. Need to hear it with its tune though for the full effect 😉
