Hamlet Doesn't Know
by @philkmills
Liner Notes
Here's an #acoustic #filk song inspired, at least a little, by an @edwinb song. Also by a demo program I got when I bought my first home computer (Apple ][).
If you don't want to deal with the weird philosophy, just imagine that Shakespeare's Horatio has taken LSD. đ
Lyrics
Hamlet doesnât know that he was written by a monkey. Yet one more soliloquy, his energy is drained. It isnât dĂ©jĂ vu, but a lingering suspicion, In a universe unbounded, weâll do this all again.
Sometimes, when I speak my part, I understand âforeverâ And stumble on a word Iâve said an endless count of times. For every instance on the stage, exact in reproduction, Infinite editions have some small change in one line.
If, in our reality, Recursion is a fact, I wonder who is scribbling The scenes the monkeys act.
Then I start to question That âendless monkeysâ stuff. If time is never-ending One monkey is enough
Iâve been charged with telling the true story of the carnage But find I have a message thatâs more fundamental still. I speak âLest more mischance on plots and errors, happensâ When, next, an ink-stained monkey dips a newly-sharpened quill.
If, in our reality, Recursion is a fact, I wonder who is scribbling The scenes the monkeys act.
Then I start to question That âendless monkeysâ stuff. If time is never-ending One monkey is enough

I like the flow and feel of this. And the thought experiment of infinite time vs infinite monkeys and recursion. :)
Love it!
Love this! It's both quirky and wise!
Hehehe. Hamlet could use some monkeys. Not in the play just in his personal life. That rippling guitar is so soothing. Soothing is probably helpful when combining philosophy with monkeys.
I love this song, Phil. Could I trouble you to share the chords? (If you prefer not to, that's totally cool.)
Very cool song and love the tune and wonderful lyrics.
