Ten O’Clock
Skirmish: Write That Title! (@gruvmachine)Liner Notes
#acousticrock I can’t explain why this title was on my list, but here we go. Written in 38 minutes. +9 hours: Reading this the next morning, I saw why this song matters, and I expect I will add a little to the lyrics and add music before too long. +7 days: I rewrote less than I thought, not changing the narrative or flow at all, but substituting a few stronger words. I wrote the simplest music that would fit the mood and message.
Lyrics
I never meant to keep these plans a secret I never meant to have to turn around I didn’t hold anything in my back pocket I said everything I knew about why and how
I told you at eight o’clock I told you at nine o’clock I told you at ten o’clock But we are here now
I never meant this to be a time of confusion I never meant to create complexity I never imagined you in this kind of illusion I thought we saw the same opportunity
I told you at eight o’clock I told you at nine o’clock I told you at ten o’clock But we are here now
Outside the gate Cold and it’s late Still a way in Not end of the rope Not lose hope Not begin again
I never meant to lose the bigger picture I never thought we’d lose sight of the goal There was nothing extra in the mixture The recipe was just the way I told
I told you at eight o’clock I told you at nine o’clock I told you at ten o’clock But we are here
I told you at eight o’clock I told you at nine o’clock I told you at ten o’clock But we are here
I told you at eight o’clock I told you at nine o’clock I told you at ten o’clock But we are here now
Ohhhh this is neat. Definitely curious to see where you take this! Already as is, I like what you've got here and your use of repetition with the time (like a ticking clock)
