SLEEPLESS NIGHTS

Liner Notes

In Summer 24, this started out with the words 'Sleepless, restless, listless, pointless' . I struggled to make it work and let it rest. Today it became a song about feeling/being lost. It's a rough #acousticonetake and I like it well enough to get it ready for public performance in early March

Lyrics

‘SLEEPLESS NIGHTS’

Sleepless nights Not what I expected Sleepless nights Dead fear resurrected Sleepless nights Wondering, wondering ‘Why’

Restless evenings Seems I’ve got no choice Restless evenings Talking to my inner my voice Restless evenings We're trying to figure out why

Listless mornings Doing absolutely nothing Listless mornings Life has got no meaning Listless mornings Too weak to worry about why

Pointless days Full of empty feelings Pointless days Dark thoughts have me reeling Pointless days Don’t even want to know why

Wish someone could tell me But I know that no-one can Answers to my big questions Are always too long And they never help anyway

Break away Oh, I wish that I could Get free and clear Of this self-destructive loop That from sleepless nights To pointless days

Sleepless, restless, listless, pointless Sleepless, restless, listless, pointless Nights, evenings, mornings and days Nights, evenings, mornings and days

This chord progression just carries me along with it. Really like the muffled guitar. And yeah, man do I know that feeling...

Oh mate, this really landed with me, I've had this problem longer than I remember and I totally get the consequent feeling of the "pointless days" that follow. Clearly it was worth resting it for a time, cos it works a treat now and sounds much more natural.

Some good little hooks in this. I can identify with the lyrics, too.

Great use of repetition Paddy - and I love the idea of listless mornings! Agree with Josie - deffo a keeper.

Yup, keeper. Had a few bouts of it myself this year and found myself a manic zombie. So this rings true.

@phonopath

Certainly gets the message across glad you returned to the idea as it’s a really strong song
