Kind of a riff off of the Bottle Rockets "Happy Anniversary."
Lyrics
I wrote you a letter But I never sent it For some reason I must have invented
I wrote you a letter About a broken heart Said I was sorry For my part
But look at you now Wearing a smile And I'm just a man in denial
I met your husband Just the other day While I was working Near your old place
He asked if I knew you Little does he know I used to love you A long time ago
But look at you now Wearing a smile And I'm just a man in denial
I couldn't tell you Just what went wrong I keep saying I don't miss you I've been saying it all along
But look at you now Wearing a smile And I'm just a man in denial

Like the finger picking style and guitar , breaks up the feelings and expressions., gives a bit of time to think about the situation. Very relatable and good song all around.
Nice and heartfelt. Also reminded me of Unhappy Anniversary by Louden Wainwright III. Smile and denial is a lovely and unexpected rhyme, good work!
Now that's the kind of song I wish I'd written. Simple, straight-forward, heart-rending storytelling. Brilliant.
I really like the intro. Sad story here, well expressed in the lyrics, with great music that is well performed. I enjoyed my listen.
A good take on a well known position. I lyrics are:
"He asked if I knew you Little does he know I used to love you A long time ago"
Musically the Bridge was awesome, really allows for the energy building into the last time through the chorus. Awesome 👏 👏 👏
This is a fantastic song, one of the best I've read today. I really like your writing style of short n sweet and to the point, while also showing in a subtle way ... damn, she's the one who got away. The chorus is perfection.
