DESTINATION
by @conuladh
Liner Notes
A couple of summers back, Andy Griffiths and I were watching an old steam train pass under a bridge and, disappear around a bend. I told him I wanted write song where the train taking a loved one away was not sad event, but the happy start of a journey back. I forgot about until an hour when I running though my memories for my next FAWM offering. Having found the memory I wrote and recorded this in under 20 minutes - a personal best. It's an unrehearsed #acousticonetake with the guitar part created once I pressed the phone record button.
Lyrics
‘DESTINATION’
City to city Moving, always moving Country after country Wings wheels and tracks
Long, loving letters Photographs and postcards Messages and video Taking up the slack
Even outward journeys Do not make be sad Wherever I leave for Is the start of my journey back
To you Who Have always been My destination

Can’t believe that guitar is improvised as it’s perfect for the song
Hey Paddy, love this guitar part. Sweet song!
Perfect guitar riff paddy, love that. The whole feel of the song has an underlying train rhythm which is perfect having read the liner notes. The phrasing of the first verse, with those repeated words in the short lines really adds to it. Really great song Paddy - one of your best if you ask me!
Also - just want to add that the image of you and Andy Griff sat watching steam trains talking about songwriting just makes me smile.
I like the guitar part especially if it was improv and the lyrics are really like flowy and move you onwards which works for the song.
That's a cracking guitar riff mate - can't believe it's an off the cuff ad-lib. You've kind of done a skirmish to your own prompt here - and it works a treat. It feels immediate and I hope you keep it around 😊
Listening in the Soundhouse. Sounds really good with some nice guitar work.
