Lyrics
Night crawlers and coors light Dad's old zebco and baloney on rye Make it down to the lake by nine While the old boys are rolling Morning sam how's the bite He said I can't complain I did alright Any day on the water is better than a day in the dirt
I smiled at him and he tipped his hat threw me line and I pulled up the slack said Sam we oughta put that on a shirt
Chorus I'm going fishing It doesn't matter what I catch I'm on a mission to wet a line and kick back and see happiness with 2020 vision I'm going fishing.
My trusty skiff is in the slip on the end I let the motor idol an evinrude 110 Hope I catch something besides a buzz or a tan but even that would be just fine I aint got money but I've got time. I'd rather be hard up than chasing dollar signs. Life moves fast. It just rolls by if you're looking back, you can't enjoy the ride
Chorus
I ain't been out much since dad got sick He fought like hell but the cancer took him I choke up every time I want to fish Cause he's the one who taught me how But this morning I packed up the truck anyway Just me and and my thoughts as I drove down the lane iced up that coleman when I got into town Chorus
Night crawlers and coorslight Dad's old zebco and baloney on rye

Nice write, and a lovely tribute to your dad! The particulars of the reel and the sandwich put the listener smack in the boat with you. "I'd rather be hard up than chasing dollar signs" is a perfect capsule line for the song. Love the recap of the first line as an outro.
Really fine job writing this one! I like all the specific references to fishing gear, motor, Coleman etc. They really help the listener be right there in the scene. The conversation with Sam is great....very realistic and the part about the t-shirt sounds familiar but is fresh for a song. Yeah, there's lot to like here. Great job!
Beautiful. You really have a knack for this kind of song. Of course, I’m not going to go fishing any time soon, not after having gotten a hook in my eyelid once when I was a kid. So I’ll enjoy vicariously through this song!
You’re a great storyteller. Nice details, and the guitar work is impeccable.
Whoohooo! That’s a beauty. It’s a keeper. Put it in the live well that one. Get on out there and do a Kenny Rogers cover album would ya? So your own talent gets the next album all to itself.
