Cut Up the Mountain
Skirmish: Sharp Objects (@robinleaf)Liner Notes
#folkrock #acousticonetake A late and very quick skirmish entry. I initially had no ideas for the topic of sharp objects until I imagined the link between mountaintop removal mining and the idea of moving to Mars.
Lyrics
At the side of the road A little metal sign Former site of Dynamite Ridge A mountain once stood here Now it’s only a ditch
Down a little trail Reflection of the sky A pond where trees wouldn’t grow You could tell that was a place Where no one should go
Cut up the mountain Till there’s nothing left of the land When you cut up the mountain Where do you stand
Start at the top Work your way down Down till you hit rock bottom Whatever rocks were there For sure you had got ’em
Cut up the mountain Till there’s nothing left of the land When you cut up the mountain Where do you stand
Now I think I see why people say that Mars is the place to go After you cut up a mountain Move on to the next one Pretty soon That’s all you know
Cut up the mountain Till there’s nothing left of the land When you cut up the mountain Where do you stand

A mountain once stood here Now it’s only a ditch .... so sad
Great idea for a tune! if someone wants to know what it would be like to live on mars should hike across a mountain that's been strip mined...
Great Sad but also important song to wake people up to how sad this is.
I like this title a lot and wanted to know what it meant. Nice strong intro, and what a fantastic topic/story. A bit environmentalism and some futuristic longing. A really good hooky melody on "cut up the mountain."
