White Elephant
by @stewdean
Liner Notes
You are left with a country estate without warning from a relative you partly knew. How would you feel?
This song is about being left a white elephant on an epic scale.
This started as an improvised session on a piano over 100 years old and was recorded onto my iPhone. I edited it into the track and structure, then added a second piano and some cello. The vocal is an AI replacement for my original singing. No AI was used to write this song.
Lyrics
[Verse 1] What did I do To earn this trust? Endless corridors, The silence of dust.
The weight of the gift, Your experiment, A creature untaimable, A white elephant.
[pre chorus] Does the king of Siam Know who I am?
[Chorus] A picture of a woman on the brink, Cigars I can not smoke, Whisky I won't drink, A vast fading garden, I can't revive, I have no army, to keep this alive.
[Verse 2] I'm responsible In a legal haze, I keep one room warm, Hidden in this maze,
And the letters, They Rain on the floor, As I contemplate, The crumbling decor
[pre chorus] Does the king of Siam Know who I am?
[Chorus] A picture of a woman on the brink, Cigars I can not smoke, Whisky I won't drink, A vast fading garden I can't revive, I have no army to keep this alive.
[Bridge] Am I the master? Am I a lord? What luxury can I afford? I lived a quiet life, humble and poor. And now old money comes knocking on my door.
[Chorus] A picture of a woman on the brink, Cigars I can not smoke, Whisky I won't drink, A vast fading garden I can't revive, I have no army to keep this alive.
A picture of a woman on the brink, Cigars I can not smoke, Whisky I won't drink, A vast fading garden I can't revive, I have no army to keep this alive.
Love the production, the voice, the mood, great job .
