Not Gonna Keep it Quiet

Skirmish: The Wrong _________ (fill... (@robinleaf)

Liner Notes

I've had the first two lines floating around in my head for the last couple of weeks so decided to go with that even though it's not technically following the fill in the blank formula. Ended up writing a song inspired by all of the amazing protest songs I've heard thus far during FAWM. An ode to solidarity and standing strong and singing out in the face of atrocity.

(Had to do this #acousticonetake on my voice memo app since my partner is out at band practice with our recording equipment)

Lyrics

Not Gonna Keep it Quiet By Rachel Eve - Feb 23 2025

Well I don’t feel right But I don’t feel wrong I’m stuck somewhere in the middle Of a wandering thought

As the zone it floods Chaos all around I gather up your protest songs Wanna make a louder sound

Rising up Will you join your voice with mine Joyful noise Might not save the world But I’m not gonna it quiet No, we won’t keep it quiet

Always gives me hope When I can see How even the very worst of times Can’t eradicate humanity

Standing up for those Who must run and hide Keep it marching on ‘Cause the time is always right for…

Rising up Will you join your voice with mine Joyful noise Might not save the world But I’m not gonna it quiet No, we won’t keep it quiet No we, will join the riot for peace, won’t be compliant Alone we’re small, but together we’re giant Ooh…

This is wonderful! Nice combination of an intimate, personal feelings type song and a big rousing anthem. Chord choices are uplifting and unexpected at times, which is perfect. Of course, as always, your voice is lovely and provides vulnerable expressiveness.
I find protest songs, or any songs about injustice, current events, or social action very hard to write and I've hardly written any. But I have the start of one in my notebook and this inspires me to knock it out and post it for FAWM today.

That soaring chorus is inspirational. The melody is uplifting and the last verse is so hopeful. Truly a song to rise up with!

So powerful! This sounds like a classic folk protest song, maybe Joni or someone like that. We need more and more songs like this right now, so thank you!

I love the power of the vocal. Great message in the lyric. There is a strength to the song which us good to hear. Good use of the prompt.

I like the intimacy and vulnerability you deliver in this honest and heartfelt lyric. I love how the chorus soars with emotion with the insight and hope that we can make a difference together. I love the joyful noise approach - so much better than an angry outcry! Gorgeous piano and lovely vocals. Beautiful, timely, and relevant song. Thank you for the joyful reframing of our shared sentiment of protest!

Really like the interesting rhythm on your piano chording -- and love the surge up in the chorus. And your voice and emotion are wonderful to hear.
