There Might Be Room for Silence

Skirmish: Whenever you are silent, ... (@dutchie)Liner Notes
I'm in musical theatre mode today, having put the finishing touches on "The Other Christmas Show" score last night (see my profile for more info and the link). Also played some Steely Dan with my band last night, so those major 7th chords are front and center. #jazz #singersongwriter
Honoring #skirmish time, so there's only two verses and a chorus so far. Comments and suggestions welcome, and check back in a couple of hours for there will be more. #political #musical theatre
And, addendum....version with instrumental third verse posted now!
Lyrics
THERE MIGHT BE ROOM FOR SILENCE (c) 2025 raspberry33
VERSE 1:
Jibbering, jabbering, news always breaking
And filling the void with confusion
Slithering, slathering one more layer
On weak foundations
Am I too sensitive, or just too old
To keep up this crazy pace
Do I really need to hear about new depravations
VERSE 2:
Forecast is calling for punishing rain
There will be mudslides tomorrow
Latest calamity, involves profanity
Shown but not spoken
Feeling like everyone’s personal amp's
Been turned up to eleven
Is there a slot to buy silence?
Here’s my token
CHORUS:
There’s plenty of room for distraction Plenty of space for noise
People will fill every second to get your attention
Plenty of room for fantasies of retribution and violence
But can we find room For silence
VERSE 3: When you are silent, you will hear more Do you understand masking? Multi-tasking has become our state religion Go back a century, go back a decade Are we better off today Than when the news came by carrier pigeon?
There might be room for silence

I really like the 'Jibbering, jabbering' and 'Slithering, slathering' combinations. Very effective. And the melody is really nice.
Nice job!. It has a Steely Danísh vibe to it (Vocal seems in that direction). Looking forward to hearing the whole song. Nice of you to honuring the skirmish time! Thank you
Wow! You packed so much into that hour, political satire woven with hard-hitting truths. Well-crafted lines throughout, but my favorite has to be 'Forecast is calling for punishing rain.' And that final line of your chorus? The ultimate question! Fantastic work on the challenge!
Nice production. Lots of special effects well placed. I wish I could do that!!! I grew up in Western MA and have a lot family there. LIke the silence section. They really worked well . Very much a part of the song
