Skirmish: Skeleton Key (@jem)Liner Notes
#onechord I wanted to do this skirmish, but missed it a few days ago. I had my second chance when @dudachris posted a Time Warp skirmish to complete a song from a past skirmish--so here it is posted twice. Do I get double credit for one song?
Lyrics
Song in a Skeleton Key Mark Greenberg 2025
I wanted to look cool like other kids So I bought me a guitar yes I did Craving all the girls and applause And it couldn’t be too hard, but it was
You have to buy a strap, just my luck It’ll set you back a couple bucks Then you have to tune the strings, what a drag Didn’t know that was a thing, that’s too bad
They didn’t tell me about the chords Got to press down hard on the board And they seem to change with every part So much to learn and I’m not that smart
Got to move your fingers all around All while strumming up and down And this chord they call a barre It’s a lot of work to play guitar
Then I learned of open tuning It wasn’t very time consuming The open D don’t sound so bad And it reminds me of my DAD
So what’s with all the changing keys It seems like too much work for me I keep it simple, not too hard And play my songs with just one chord

This gave me the biggest smile! I'm glad you posted it for the Time Warp Skirmish so I got to hear it! I've given learning guitar a try a few times, and this definitely hit home. Maybe I need to go back and just start writing one chord songs. This was so good!
OMG Mark, you always make me laugh so hard! "Reminds me of my DAD" what a great thing to say about open D tuning! So glad you did my skirmish and i think you hit it right on target by its reduction to critical [skeletal] elements. I'd give you credit for BOTH skirmishes - but it's still only 1 song.
Found some really good riffs and melodies within that one chord—really well done! As someone who has struggled to learn guitar, I really relate to the lyrics, and you captured it with a great sense of humor.
