@fuzzy - The single repeated bass note is mine - an electric guitar low E tuned down to a D with a whammy bar.

I immediately love the sparse slide guitar. Yeah, really soundtracky. I am assuming the bass is Bear's; love it. Really nice work here.

Very dark western feel, night time under the stars and on watch duty.

Just listened to the original, which is lovely, and this takes things a step farther. The slide guitar adds an Americana element and universalizes the European nature of the original. Great!
