Liner Notes
#folk, #girlwithguitar #collab Tammy: My annual Doug collab. Always love his encouragement and writing skills, this one was tough for me. I wish it was more and more well done, but time.
Doug: This sounds wonderful to my ears, Tammy. You have a special voice and a special way of writing music that speaks to the heart, and I hear all of that here. I'm super glad you posted it in spite of your misgivings, because it's a wonderful listen. Thank you!

They're Still Together

They met about 70 years ago In a coffee shop on Maple She was reading a best seller He came over to her table
chorus And they’d talk, Or they would walk And soon 70s years had passed And they’d talk, Or they would walk And they’re still together
They wanted to have a big family But one of them wasn’t able Bit their lips and went on living Only two sat at their table
chorus And they’d talk, Or they would walk And soon 70s years had passed And they’d talk, Or they would walk And they’re still together
Bridge Now he can’t recall the book she was reading She pretends She’s forgotten too 'Cause sometimes he gets blue When he sees his mind is not the same She wants to spare him all the pain That comes from growing old She wraps a blanket round his shoulders When he’s cold
The things they discuss have narrowed down To their health and to the weather Neither of them has a cell phone And they don’t own a computer
Chorus So they talk, They can barely walk And their time is running short So they talk, They can barely walk But they’re still together
Outro Yes, their time is running short But they’re still together They’re still together

Lovely chords and rhythm in the intro. I like the upbeat vibe. Nice harmonies! A powerful story with both happiness and sadness, as all long-term relationships experience. Great collab!
Oh, I live this story! I love the easy music and the feel of it all! Wonderful collab!!
Very nice storytelling that warms the heart. Your vocals sound great - so clear and melodic. Love that melancholy bridge, which contrasts nicely with the general sunniness of the rest of the song. And the harmonies are wonderful!
I let out an audible “aww” after the first line. Such a sweet story and it’s delivered with such tenderness. A lovely and poignant song about enduring love.
This is a really lovely song with a great story. I love seeing old couples out together. It's so refreshing to see people that you know have been together forever. It's really sweet, as is this song.
Sweet song that really paints a picture of beautiful old love, enjoyed these vocals immensely. Great listen 💚
Really admire the light touch to this song. Those generous open chords bring such warmth to this absolutely terrific love story. It works really, really well.
Such a lovely love story! Beautifully sung and played! Very enjoyable! - Natalie
A wonderful story from Doug, sung lovely with a very happy-sounding chorus melody (despite the age problem) after a very melancholy bridge.
and smart a annual Doug collab you didn't need more time Tammy this is a lovely delivery of a super lyric abd your delivery style is perfect for it! lovely ps @paulhenry I was married on 1 Feb 2004 the day Fawm started.
My FAWM always starts on February 2nd, because the 1st is our wedding anniversary. We married late, so I doubt that we'll make 70. But we hope to get as far as we can, like the couple in your sweet song.
One of the later verses veers off a little for me. The one about their topics narrowing down to health and weather, and no computer, etc. That struck me as reaching for a trope rather than what a couple together that long might really talk about, even with dementia.
Sweet, melancholy. We can't know how much time we have, but try our best to make the most of it, even through dementia. The story reminds me some of The Dutchman.
Tammy has an impressive range! It lends to particularly acrobatic melodies. I love the approach to the bridge, with a unique melody and chord progression for each line – great stuff that puts a stamp on a well-written universal story
Nice collaboration. Doug manages to compress decades into a series of sharp moments, and I like how Tam's setting has a sort of calm acceptance to it, mirroring the couple as they weather the ups and downs of life. Good stuff.
