Skin in the Game

#political #guitarsolo #collaboration I'd been meeting with my good friend Norbert Nolin (met on the open mic circuit years ago) to relax and play some covers. I said hey it's FAWM lets write a song. He said I don't write songs. I said of course you do. He picked a beat on his looper. I threw some chords at him and he started playing, we recorded it on my phone and I wrote some lyrics. He loaded both into logic and we thought it sounded good. I said you need to talk in the middle. He said no, do some "dooo doos" like it's a jazz song. I said I don't know how to "dooo dooo" and anyway it's not that kind of a song. He said ok, and he came up with the middle part. The only thing he used was a drum track, everything else, bass, acoustic, and electric, is his.

Lyrics

too many politicians money changes hands all those politicians they understand they got to answer to the people the people who got skin in the game they all got skin in the game and that leaves most of us naked too damned poor to have skin in the game

a piece of the action money on the line fake it till you make it the way of the world they got bacon in the morning we got cold coffee on the train it’s all arranged we got everything to lose and they got their fingers on the scale cold fingers on the scale

how does a politician go from full intentions to filthy rich kickbacks, embezzlement, and other tricks fort Knox is filled with painted bricks made of lead secrets between two can only be when one is dead.

you got your TV you can watch ‘bout anything shop all night on Amazon but you aint got nothing no you ain’t got nothin’ till you got skin in the game skin in the game and the ones that got it wanna keep you out they call it democracy could have fooled me

I'm working backwards with my listening at the mo, so truly great to get back to some groovy cool bluesey funk feel. I adore the vocal delivery. There's a real talent with that voice and this really is such a great way to reflect such powerful lyrics

Nice job! I like the "finger on the scale" line. Great guitar solo and singing!
