Hale, King Huron
Liner Notes
To close out FAWM for the year, my last song is about the sinking of the SS Daniel J. Morrell on Lake Huron on November 29th, 1966. The only survivor of the wreck was a 26-year-old watchman named Dennis Hale who survived 40 hours in a life-raft after the ship went down.
This song was a lot of fun to work on over the past few weeks. The production is still a bit rough around the edges, but I think it gets the point across. It was cool to emulate a lot of the more tradition instruments in this track with the pipes, accordions, and mandolin (although the mandolin is not MIDI and was played live by myself!)
FAWM this year was pretty fun overall. I didn't exactly record/listen as much as I would have liked since life got so busy. But it's all just a writing exercise anyway, so it was nice to not take it as seriously this year for once. Plus I got some nice demos out of it that I can work on the rest of the year.
See you all next year and happy fawming!

Lyrics
2am to hear the final bell Boxers and my pea coat, just as well Climb the raft and don’t e’re let go Twisted, ripping steel in cold death throws
2:15 she’s breaking down in two Rammed in by the stern, out goes the crew Cries and shouts come from the valley waves ‘Till only three good men and I remained
So rock me, rock me, mother sea Choose your children carefully Fire your flares for Huron’s shore And pray your sins are forgiven for
“Don’t you eat that ice now son That’s how you’ll catch a cold” The gulls all swarm and laugh at me They see that I’m alone
I’m talking to the wheelsman Pray to live and hope to die I see them all embracing now But they say it’s not my time When’s my time?
So rock me, rock me, mother sea Choose your children carefully Signs of life fly down once more And lift me up to wayward shores
So rock me, rock me, mother sea You chose your children carefully Why am I not part of yours? I’ll ask myself forever more
I love ya!

Love it when everything kicks in! Great work.
Awesome, another mandolin!
Ned. I love you man! I love that you have your own sound, everything you’ve ever created sounds like. Well you! From your solo stuff and fawm, to the project we’re in. You have a unique style. Which is hard as hell considering the millions of musicians in the world!
Loved the final chorus. Into the mando solo. Well done buddy!
