One More Dream

Liner Notes
I got this in just under the wire.
This is my most produced song this year. I wanted to do some electric guitar through my amp, but it was getting late and I wanted to be more quiet, so I settled for my acoustic through my effects rack.
There are 18 tracks in the final mix. Two vocal takes, each recorded with two mics. And I doubled each track, putting effects on one and leaving the other clean.
A Bass Track, and then 7 different guitar tracks.
This is for all the dreamers in my life, about wanting to make things better when they aren't going well.
I spent way more time honing lyrics than any of FAWM songs this year. I had three iterations of the chorus before I found one that fit.
It has a long verse intro, reminiscent of The Gambler, and I was wondering if I should drop out the third stanza.
It feels more "pop" than I usually get, although some of that may have been lost with the guitar effects overdubs.
This is my third attempt at recording the song, and I finally landed on 122 bpm for the click track.
This is my 14th song posted--I won--and my 21st recording. Not a bad month.
Lyrics
Verse 1: (G) I want to create a world that I love (D) One that fits us like a glove (A) Where all our dreams come true (D) A perfect place for me and you
How did we end up here In a world full of fear Where did we lose our hope Without ability to cope
When Days get bad, the pressure builds We cannot let our hope be killed Persevere to get on through Do not let go of the truth
Surrounded by endless night Desperately searching for some light We need to find our way To build our perfect day
Pre-chorus (Em) How do we get to where we can (D) dream again (Em) Build a Better world (D) for all of our (A) friends
Chorus: (G) If you dream (A) it we can (D) build it Bring back magic everywhere (B) Let your true self beam (A) Bring me one more dream
Verse 2: I want to paint the world with purple and blue Favorite colors me and you Make a place where we enjoy life Bring a twinkle back to your eyes
When lost inside the dark We'll create a new spark To bring back impending light And make everything all right
Bridge (Verse Chords sustain instead of solid rhythming) (G) It is not the end we'll keep (D) moving on (A) Another day is bound to (D) dawn Around the corner, we'll find a place to be And all if this will finally be free
I can really relate to those lyrics, and the slight edge of anger in how they're sung (which the big fuzz guitar in the left channel builds on spelndidly) helps them to hit home. Dialling back the intensity for a breather during the bridge was definitely the right choice; perhaps switching the acoustic to a clean channel would emphasise the contrast even more?
