Letting Go

Liner Notes

Had another jam/writing session with a friend Tommy over the weekend, and realised how fun it is making music and tunes with good friends. Certainly need to do it more often, if not for a good excuse to catch up and hang out.

He brought this killer bass hook, which I learned on the bass guitar, and we formulated a bit of an arrangement and ideas for different sections. Then during the week we sent the project file back and forth, making edits along the way, adding vocals to the bed track.

Very happy with the direction we went with this, but we'll probably continue tinkering with it post FAWM.

Lyrics

Time will move along a path that leads you right or wrong People that you find, along the way will come and stay Thoughts come and disappear choose if they're hope or fear mirrors might not reflect what they came to expect

But you know, you can't choose someone else's point of view letting go, is all you can do

My how we have grown, just like a garden on the land, all that we have sown, will need the sun to lend a hand

Friends come and disappear, choose if they're far or near, Maybe their ignorance, shows us the difference

But you know, we can't choose someone else's point of view letting go, is all we can do

Sweet bass line. Love the groove building and nodding my head and tapping my foot. Love the keys/synth and vocoder-style vox?. The little glitchy stutters in parts are fun. Soulful singing. Poetic lyrics filled with life truths. Yes, making music with friends is fun! 😉🙌🎶

The bass is great, obv, but I love how well it supports the vocals. Those stutter vocals are so wonderfully addictive. Funny how it's so well constructed it doesn't even feel like an odd-time song.

Oo I looove this bassline. Reminds me of gorillaz feelgood Inc, but twistier. Nailed the vocal melody too, so unexpected where the energy comes up and down but it's welcome every time. This feels like how jamiroqoi might have sounded if he listened to more prog haha

Can't help but like the killer bass. There's a straight ahead rhythmic feel but so many tasty parts coming in and out that it's hard not hear movement in the track.

That is indeed a killer bass line and could go any number of ways, I like all the ways it goes here, I like particularly the friends come and disappear part.

Killer bass hook indeed! I like it when vocals and bass are together, that’s cool. Bit of wisdom to chew on with this line “But you know, you can't choose someone else's point of view, letting go, is all you can do”. Nice vocal work overall.

In person FAWM is a weird and special thing. I love it, but I'm also socially anxious so it's tricky.

I love the swing of this; reminds me of Normal Cook before he put the Fatboy hat on.

Pleasure to work with ya mate

I do love when the kick, the bass, and your vocal are all sharing that rhythm, really cool - and then breaking out into the cut-up vocal part. Reminds me a bit of Alt-J or Glass Animals. Expert arrangement here, so many Thom Yorke-y elements that come and go at the perfect times.

There is a proper groove when the words follow the bass in the second half of that basis. Love the swirling synths behind it too.
