hi! i started FAWM.
//////////////////////////////// i'll be honest: kinda burned out this year. i'm finding my groove where i can, though. will try to comment/reply with whatever's left...
either way, thanks for being a part of this musical experiment.
//////////////////////////////// TURNS OUT... for this FAWM i've done two analog EPs, writing 4-5 songs each using a cassette 4-track device (yamaha mt-4x if you care).
#CommentsFirst EP (4 songs) starts here: βΊ https://write.fawm.org/songs/309129
#Llama EP (5 songs) starts here: βΊ https://write.fawm.org/songs/312138
i kinda explained my process for these in the forums here: https://write.fawm.org/forums/2906#c83546
//////////////////////////////// i've been gradually manifesting a preference for 4-stringed instruments and might try a whole FAWM with just ukuleles, mandolins, bass, and tenor guitar/banjo. well, those plus keyboards, drum machines, and various percussion. π
science nerd + pop music junkie who grew up in the bluegrass, went to school in the tundra, and now i live in steeltown. i've been in bands in all of those places.

Hi Burr. Before the site goes dark I wanted to reach out and give a personal thank you.
I've been thinking a lot about what you said at the Kumospace virtual cocktail party and it really moved me and made a pretty big impression. Thanks for all you do here. I am forever grateful. βΊοΈ
Thanks, Burr, for your comments on βThink Like A Scientistβ. I have to admit, I did not know what I was getting myself into when I signed up for Comments First, but Iβm glad I did it. Lots of fun. Full disclosure: my spouse and I are both scientists, but complete opposites on the Myers-Briggs scale, so it was good fodder for the lyric. π
Thanks also for your hard work on FAWM. This has been transformational for my songwriting, and I hope to do it again next year, hopefully bringing along my brother and daughter!
Thank you so much for commenting on "Radio Static". And thanks for all you do to make this such a great place to hang out for February and March!
that's two tapes I'm on that will be straight out of the gate next year.
I've still got a lot to learn when it comes to mixing, and these 4-track collabs have been one of the best ways for me to get a chance doing it in a unique situation while also putting me in the position to most likely fill in on an instrument I'm not super comfortable with.
I had so much anxiety around this at first and have gained some confidence and knowledge thanks to FAWM. FAWM has really helped push me out of my comfort zone and I'm super thankful to you and the rest of the team who keep this going. Thank you!
One last thing - I believe that you're also a DIY gear builder. If you're interested in building an NPN Dizzy Tone let me know. I've got a PCB with your name on it if you want (and transistors if you need those too).
Thank you so much, Burr!! For the kind comment & for the FAWM experience. I hope this year treats you well. Cheers--to next time--2026!!
Thanks for your comments on "His name was Odd". It's odd but I don't even know what to say except thank you! ;)
Thank you so much for your beautiful words on my comment first piece. Thank you for the challenge and for creating and running FAWM. I hope you have a well deserved rest. Have a fantastic time, Burr.
Thank you for taking the time to check out my lyric - The Rules They Make - and I will forever be grateful that your creation of FAWM (and the beautiful monstrosity it's become - in the best way ever) allows so many of us to safely vent how we feel about the world today.
In crap times like these, it is the artists who save and inspire us to rise against evil in its human form.
Thank you for your nice comment! I feel excited to be receiving a comment from you haha ;D
THank you so much for commenting on "Caoineag". Who knew that comments first challenge would result in a listenable - and releaseable - song? Thank you for that! Or @wobbiewobbit I actually don't know who started!
Hey Burr, thanks for checking out some of the tape collabs Iβve been involved with this year and for your kind feedback! On βSuper 8β I sang the harmony part along with the rhythm guitar to smuggle in an extra layer.
Ps you should definitely try to squeeze an 8 track into your studio if possible! π€ππ
Thanks for the kind words about North Fork. Much appreciated!
β¦ah! - and no - the ET Structure just provided a few shaders - in this particular case the shapes were black shapes provided by Resolume - however, those shapes can easily be made with the LZX-modules and othersβ¦

Thanks for your comments on "Moody Cats Dancing". The wind sounds you liked were the new MuseSounds for MuseScore playback. They are rather good imho.
Thanx, that helps!
Thanks for your comments on "Asking for a Friend". It's scary how the lyrics of this kind of songs are becoming more current by the day. Anyways it was interesting to write something I normally don't.
thank you so much for the comment under "Don't Be a Stranger"!!! you're totally right, drum machines and distorted guitars are the life of me so writing that one for it felt natural - it's why i love the home-recorded Ween albums so much. plus any excuse to use my Boss DS-1 is a win, i love that thing. i think the Casio bass may have been very very lightly filtered through it but i'm unsure.
Darn it, I forgot your Birthday this year. Happy belated Burrday. AND thank you for making everything possible. Here's hoping we Europeans are still allowed to post on American sites next year> see you then. THANX!
Wow, what an honor to get a comment from ya! Thank you for starting FAWM, my best friend and I have participated the last 13 years. Really changed our lives and showed us we all had a creative voice. Thank you so much. -Gus & Jon
It's good to hear from you. My boys have certainly had a lot of fun working with you and I have had fun with FAWM for 15 years. Thanks for all the work you put in to make this possible.
No, Iβd say that was rather the exact kind of comment and thinking I hoped could spill out of that bucket. I think Iβve got room to revise the lyric, I toyed with bosses/owners and went with the word I felt like Woody woulda used.
Looking forward to catching up on your tunes once the dust, ahem, settles. π
Thanks for the comments! The R4 has a pretty good built-in mic but usually I have an SM58 plugged in for vocals and an AKG something-or-another for uke, plugged into the two inputs.
Thank you for FAWM!!!
Thank you for your comments on βIgorβ
First of all, THANKYOU for starting FAWM. Iβve slowed down a lot in my music writing in the past few years but FAWM has kept the spark alive. Secondly, I was so happy to receive a comment from you on my song βAnybody with a Heart.β Iβm motivated to actually make that a song I play live.
Thank you! You NAILED the implication of the title, and I'm so glad you read into it and offered some kind words!
I love your description of "Bloodstream" (which is likely what I'll picture from now on) - thank you!
My friend, yes, letβs zoom after FAWM is over! Brian and I would love that!!!!
Happy Birthday πππ May it be full of great πΆ music π΅!
Hi- yes, that was an intelligent and good way to retitle that thread ! . Thanks!
Yuppers! Just tagged you back!
Hey there! Question for ya - might you have time for adding some jazzy guitar ingredients to some jelly I'm working on? π
Cheater! π
Just updated the four-track liner notes with who played what, in what order. :-)

Thank you, the metamorphosis collab from last 50/90 is awesome!! Well done.
Hello neighbor, it's Scott, Jack's person. I'm enjoying FAWM. Thanks!
mate - can you email me you postal address? so I can send the four track challenge tape 2 to you?
ta.
Thanks again for creating Purple Hay. Would it be possible to get an MP3 of it emailed to me? I'd love to be able to keep listening to it once this year's FAWM is finished Simon
Just stopping by to thank you for all you do for this community.
Hi Burr, thanks for paying a visit and to listen to 'No Advice'. Knowing you're going through a valley at the moment, it means more than a lot. Thanks!
Today is a great day to create music. I cannot wait to hear your new songs.
Hi Burr! Some part of my brain can't compute that you know about my YT channel... so I've filed that under "YAY! Process later." And instead, I want to thank you for everything you do to support and maintain this incredible community. I wish I'd found FAWM years ago, if only to see how it evolved into such a special place/thing. I know we're only 5 days in, but it's been everything I hoped.
(... and of course, I'd also love to know what non-computer recording device you're using/fighting these days. I'm finishing a song on a Korg D888, and only just realizing that I don't know how to connect it to my computer. Surprises, puzzles, workarounds... it's the life!)

sending you gratitude and love for doing all that you do for our lovely community, directly from Portugal! π have a great FAWM!!!
Thanks for squeezing in some positive feedback for my first song this year, I do appreciate it. I'm pulling for you to find the time to write some amazing things!
Thank you so much for imagining this space and building it. Itβs really changed my life to get to be part of it. If thereβs ever anything I can do to help lighten the load for you and the rest of the team, Iβd be glad to.
