March 2025 I tossed up a number of bits and pieces in the waning hours of FAWM - that new counter was compelling and broke my inner glutton out of prison. Collaborations welcome on these.
At least three songs slipped into being this season that feel like glimpses inside for me.
The Rothko Closet in My Bedroom
It’s Unlikely (That You’ll Ask Me)
A Baby Got Born on the Subway Train This Morning
Somewhere Warm Again With Me
( Maybe also Pick Up Dog Poop)
It was a delight to get to jump into so many collaborations.
FAWM 2025 - this is my fourth year, and I’m so happy to be back.
I’m always excited to collaborate on just about anything. If you’ve never collaborated but always wanted to, feel extra invited to connect.
I’ve been loving the Friday song circles on zoom that @unknownbecky hosts and the Wednesday European zooms that @wobbiewobbit hosts.
Last FAWM I got to visit London and the Ramshackle Collective @wobbiewobbit hosts and meet loads of UK FAWMErs
I love writing lyrics from scratch or to a piece of music or to a prompt. I’ll go ahead and come up with some music if I can’t convince someone else to do that part. I'll also sing and play some guitar. I also found a clarinet while I was cleaning out my sister's basement. I can still play a scale, so who knows. Maybe a little bit of keyboard too.

Thank you so much for your kindness. Will definitely catch up with you next FAWM or earlier if the summer challenge works out. It has been a joy getting to know you through your works. Have a wonderful break
Over 800 comments..awesome.
Thank you Nancy for your kind comments and support 🙏
thank you for all your lovely comments coming in right under the finishing line. can you believe that all this is going to disappear at any moment?
Thank you so much for your kind comments and wonderful thoughts on 'There Goes The Sun', 'I Cut' and 'Phoenician Blue'. They had me thinking a lot. The lyrics just flowed for 'There Goes The Sun' thanks to the wonderful music by @loustheny now that I look it over, you are bang on about it being about a people pleaser. Your thoughts and insight on 'Phoenician Blue' actually had me thinking about writing another proper love song with the same title. About a love that IS Phoenician Blue. And your profound thoughts on 'I Cut' have me pondering the same, whilst I cannot totally comprehend the kind of pain that could push someone to that point, the protagonist of that series was able to communicate that desperation so well that it just stayed in my mind. Thank you for the time you've taken to go through my work, I'm truly grateful 🙇♀️
Nancy thank you for the deluge of lsitens and comments, I just can't reciprocate and feel badly about it but I'm too stretched with other things (assumed FAWM would just...peter out. And now I'm stuck in critical music production for non-FAWM!) Repointing etc songs...and songs on the nature of living with a loving enfolding bloodsucking vampire aka heritage building we call home...they'll come. It takes up to a year gestation (hence all the lovely sea-music that came nearly a year after the actual event in 5090,)
I've got you down on my list for a possible summer challenge!
Thank you Nancy for all of your sweet kind words. I will being missing you and the rest of the FAWMily more this year than ever. Not ready to let go. 🙏🎶
Thanks for all your thoughtful comments this year! So appreciated. Wish I had another week to listen to every single song of yours!
Thanks, Nancy, for all your kind comments. Still navigating all the messages and comments! This was an overwhelming experience for me, and I'll be putting most of my FAWM songs up on my YouTube channel eventually, so you can follow me there! Collabs? Still petrified of them, but I will keep it in mind! Thanks for your support!! xx
Thank you so much for your incredibly kind and thoughtful comments on my tracks. I hope the rest of the year treats you kindly.
The clock is running out! Thanks for your comment on "The Mica in the Stone" -- and I hope you had a happy FAWM 2025!
D'accord... Mais contrairement à Jules & Jim, je vais faire attention à ne pas mettre la voiture dans la rivière. Pas de fin tragique pour moi et mes enfants ! Yeah play the video slowly is a great help to develop skills in a language.
Thank you for your kind comments and thoughts on 'Are You Home?' 😀
Nancy, thanks so much for your insightful comments on Restless Traveler. I hadn’t thought about it that way, but I guess the song really does speak to that fight or flight response in all of us. For me, it was kind of a prodigal son/daughter scenario. There are probably so many prayers out in the ether from the lips of parents who’ve had wayward children, and can only hope they eventually find their way home. I wish I had more time to listen to more wonderful songs, but here we are practically to the day they will be shutting the site down. I was able to listen to a few: One take is All it Takes, A Baby Got Born On the W Train, and Rothko Closet in My Bedroom. I find your style to be warm and inviting, with a wonderful way of drawing your listeners into the stories you’re telling us. And there is a quality to your voice that I find really appealing. It’s simple, clear, and straightforward, with just a hint of irony. I love that! I hope you have a great rest of the year, and look forward to seeing you here again next February☺️.
Sloth SKA, I like it!
Thanks so much for your kind words about "Christmas in February!" I hope everyone stays healthy and enjoys a joyous Springtime!
Thanks, Nancy, for your comments on “I Got My Guitar Back” and “My First Garden”. For the latter orphan lyrics, feel free to put them to music, should you be inspired to do so. I don’t expect to come up with anything anytime soon. Hope to ‘see’ you in next year’s FAWM.
Thanks very much for your comments on “Happiness.” Deb does such a great job with the music and the additions like giggles and laughter. You see that eventually I did make it to some happy and silly songs despite getting off to a rocky start.
Thank you again, Nancy. I'm really touched by your second comment. It brings me so much joy to know how much you enjoy the song. That's the real power of music, isn't it? :)
Thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful comment Nancy. Parenting has been a blast, I teared up a few times writing that song, kids are a real gift, congrats on yours. All the best for tax season and see you next FAWM!
Thanks for the comment about North Fork. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much for your fantastic comment on "Fire In The Wheelhouse". I appreciate it very much.
thank you for your comment on 'Goodnight Sweater'. It was a treat to read!
Thank you so much for the nice words! Maybe next fawm or 50/90 when I'm a little more organized we can collab on something! :)
I loved your interpretation of weightless epiphany - I almost hate to write the liner notes because the listener brings so much to the song in terms of what it means to each person. The personal journey was certainly part of my write as much as the relational aspects and the need for respite and recharging is such an important piece of an adventure. Thank you for your thoughtful comment!
Thank Nancy! Wouldn't say music-first is really accurate on that one, I wrote the lyric in full before realising it might fit to an existing guitar idea that I then reworked to suit the words. Was very pleased that they ended up suiting each other so well!
Thanks Nancy, really appreciate the offer, we love feedback and especially things we could do differently or something we hadn't thought of. If you wanted to hear some more I would suggest Dinner of Dirt, Grand Plan and Everything and You beside me - looks like you had a very productive fawm :)
Thanks for your comment on "Weightless Epiphany". I'm happy that you enjoyed the song! I like your interpretation of @chrismyth02 lyrics. He is such a poetic writer! My lyrics are more straight into your face xD For some reason our collabs seem to flow best when I do the instrumental and Chris adds his magic on vocals and lyrics. But who knows which projects we write in future? Thank you so much!
Thanks Nancy for sharing your story about your family cars and kind comments on A Hell Of A Car. Much appreciated.
Gosh, Nancy...thanks for all the listens. It took me a second to remember what song you were talking about, since I don't revisit anything. I would be more than delighted if you did whatever you wanted with whatever parts of The End of Self-Improvement that appeal to you. I guess the ultimate end of self-improvement is death...but on our way to that end we try to pursue some finite goals in this vast world of possibility. I guess that's the whole point of FAWM :)
Thank you Nancy for your in depth comment on my song. I love your ideas and will try to think along those lines in future songs. I criminally under utilize the higher registers purely because I am so much more comfortable in the low end.
Thank you so much for listening and commenting to Living without you
Sure, I'm always open to collabs, just let me know. I didn't get too much music done, but Sutoresu is I think right up there on quality for me this year, though no opus. Circular song is also pretty fun/was fun to make and my kids love it.
Anything you'd want my ears on?
Sadly not this year; my FAWM was a bit truncated due to work crunch early February, and didn't quite get to it this year (plus don't want to push for it if the kids aren't interested). Hopefully I'll get some next year.
Thanks for your insights! The inclusion of both of @intoyourlight 's voices at the end of "A Mysterious Force" just seemed to fit, and your idea that it's the relationship entering the room is wonderful.
Thank you so much for your comment on "I welcome you". It meant a lot <3
…and conversely how tempting it can be to do things that are self-destructive. The line breaks both ways. Thank you so much for your insightful comments x
Hi Nancy - posted the music on Leave a Little Space - thx so much for allowing me to write to your lyric!
Hi Nancy. Thanks for kind words. Let's see what the world has in store for us this time next year. All the best. Cheers
Thanks for your comment on "You Can Be One Of Us"! Now I need to go check out those collaborations. :)
Hey Nancy, get those Chinese and Appalachian stories down into song - I'd love to hear them. I'm part way through turning the story of Jing Wei into a song and also wrote a song based on the Japanese story Princess Kaguya (also known as The Bamboo Cutter). it is so much fun!
Hi Nancy, I just tried looking up Gallymanders but got nothing except a reference to a Richard Chase book. Sounds intriguing!
Hi Nancy. It'll be up in a few days
I think you might enjoy listening to "Girl on the Train" (my fav), "Awikiwah", and "New World". Which songs of yours are you most proud of and/or you would like to have more listens?
I love your comments very much! They are so thoughtful and vivid!
Thanks for your lovely comments!
Thank you (again) for checking out another one of my songs (Looking Forward)
I appreciate the deep thoughtful comments you made, as you've given me food for thought in terms of wondering whether there's more to this song, than I first scribbled.
Great fawm 2025 Nancy. Great to see so many songs and so many collaborators. I'm convinced at this point you personally know every single person on fawm and beyond. Thanks for all the great comments you left on my songs, especially the ones where you provide fresh perspective or identify themes in the song that were hidden in my subconscious. You are also out there hanging on the pronunciation of every word and it's great to get that feedback on phrases and words that I just don't even think about. So thanks for that. You have definitely inspired me with your songs I have had a chance to listen to this fawm. Without a doubt want to try the morph challenge as "It's Unlikely" is proof of that success (banger). I also really liked 'A Baby Go Born on the W Train This Morning". I'm glad I will get to hear more from you outside of fawm.
Thank you for your thoughts on 'Chameleon' it is about a master manipulator who mirrors to create a bond quickly, not a people pleaser, but someone who wants to create a bond with a clear intent to exploit the other person, they sound very empathetic but their agenda is always themselves.
