This song started out as a back history on Judge Doom of Who Framed Roger Rabbit? It turned into a somewhat different character, but one still worthy of the name. I want to strengthen the ending for the final version, but I think this has promise. #filk

He knew the wrong and knew the right. He knew that he would have to fight So that the good would stand a chance, To halt its enemies' advance. He aimed to teach lawbreakers fear. To guard the law that he held dear. No obstacle would bar his way And no temptation make him stray.

He could not bear the law's delay And letting villains get away. The course of justice must be swift And from its path should never drift. Appeals and technicalities, Exclusions and rejected pleas Were all just tools for buying time, A shield for those engaged in crime.

He battled hard, but he forgot The justice for which he had fought. And in his quest to conquer sin His only aim was now to win. He gained a grudging kind of fame, Came to be known by his new name, For it was doom he brought to those He came to think of as his foes.

He knew each detail of the law And how to exploit every flaw And many to the gallows sent Who might perhaps be innocent. Convinced he had done as he should To thwart the evil, aid the good, And no one with a conscience clear Need ever look at him with fear.
