Hyperion

I wrote 14 songs today! This one happened when I imagined being the tallest tree in the forest. I looked up how tall the tallest tree is, and it's a redwood in California that they discovered in 2006 and named Hyperion. No one is allowed to know exactly where it is, and I kind of like that.

Lyrics

I am the tallest tree The tallest tree around Standing at 400 feet From tip top to the ground Standing like a sentry For centuries Never thought that I’d see Times like these

I am a testament A living history But my exact location Remains a mystery Humanity could never nevermind me I fear to think what happens if they find me

800 years I guess Although I must confess I never felt a difference until recently But here I will remain Out in the misty rain And no one will take away the peace in me

Roots reach as deeply down As I reach to the sky If I had a dream I’d wonder what it’s like to fly Travel to the mountains all around me Be able to escape if someone found me

Give my love to tumbleweed As on away she rolls Give my love to blackbird And other wayward souls Give my love to the one who came to name me If lightning or wildfire claim me

Absolutely gorgeous. Hopefully that tree lives on for another 800 years.

Absolutely gorgeous. I love how you not only take the perspective of this tree but even explore what it may dream of and admire. I also love the sounds of these lines:

"Standing like a sentry For centuries"

"But here I will remain Out in the misty rain"

HOLLLLYYYY sh****tt this is so freaking beautiful. I love everything you've done with this -- the beautiful guitar picking, your gentle voice, and the simultaneously gently and majestic storytelling, which seems so perfect for an 800 year old being. The chorus is especially transcendent, evoking all these beings that move...ugh...really brilliant.

Beautiful! I’d love to hear a full version of this with droning cello and some high ethereal harmonies. Nicely done there, one take Charlie!

This is a good one. A bit drone-y like a fiddle tune. Suits the tree topic. I like the uke is it? A fingerpicked uke? Don't hear that much.

Wow, what a majestic tribute to a majestic tree. The string picking is so peaceful. A song to bask in.

This is lovely. I love the idea of a 400-feet-tall secret hidden in the californian woods. Nice contrast between the tiny ukulele and the giant tree. Your picking is very evocative but I can't decide if it reminds me of hte sound of the leaves with the wind of the sound on the rain on it.

14 songs in one day?? No fair! Wonderful uke playing, and a great tribute to the 'old man' of the tree world.

This is a gem. Love the concept and the way you play it out. This is just what I needed today.

One time I got really high and had this same thought. Lightning and wildfire might just claim us all

What a beautiful song. The lyrics flow nicely and I really like the clear sound of your voice with the fingerpicking on the guitar.

Great inspiration. I like trees and tall ones. As always you make it easy to listen to, yet informative and interesting.
