Liner Notes

First #skirmish song of 2025 - a cautionary lyric about the ramifications of giving in to temptation. Prompt was "Hunger, thirst, desire, compulsion"...

If anyone wants to take a stab at instrumentation, open for collab. #needsmusic

Lyrics

I want to eat from the tree of knowledge The sacred fruit will open up my eyes I’ll share a bite with the love beside me And hope that God will compromise

Now I’m naked and afraid Wondering what a mess I’ve made My hair is going gray While the serpent smiles another day

I want to drink from the cup of Jesus Bring unto me everlasting life And if she remains ever faithful I’ll share a sip with my loving wife

But the choice was never wise Sure, the taste was sweet, but otherwise Now I’m choking on the lies While the snake he lays back and admires

I want to court a forbidden romance This life of mine could use a little spice So if Mary Magdalene won’t stop staring I’ll cast her demons right out like Christ

Now my bed is like a cell An empty hole as cold as hell And her perfume’s lingering smell Won’t shake me from this lonely spell

I want to do what my body tells me And put to bed my heart and mind And if I do what my body tells me A whisper tells me it’ll turn out fine A whisper tells me it’ll turn out fine A whisper tells me it’ll turn out fine A whisper tells me it’ll turn out fine I always listen, now I’ve lost my mind.

@nadine

First time I see you writing about faith and deepest human desires. So many allusions to the Bible. Interesting write.

@tiller2

Interesting lyric, showing the tension between seeking holiness and satisfying human needs and desires, with other humans who are as imperfect as the narrator. Great skirmish.
