Going to Middle-of-Nowhere

This one's sorta compiled from lyric snippets I've had in my head so it's a bit vague, but I wanted to write about my weird internal dissatisfaction with the town I live in and my friends with similar views regarding where they are. I've been listening to a lot of the Mountain Goats' "All Hail West Texas", and even though that album doesn't have any tracks in the "Going to [XYZ]" series I thought since this song is fairly influenced by them invoking that in the title could be a cool nod.
Apologies for the pitchy vocal - getting over COVID I got three weeks ago after not having it for like two and a half years so I'm still fairly messed up (which is why I didn't do this one yesterday!)
Lyrics
Deep in this place, where the heat's all around We all see better with our heads in the clouds There's hundreds of fish swimming just like you But they're all at work turning paintings askew
She drove the Honda 'bout half a block T'wards the center with the old auto shop But we weren't for repairs, she was going next door To the tiny, run-down, old charity store
Going through the aisles all day 'Til closing hours would drive you away Woah-oh-oh, oh damn, another day south of nowhere
Late at night, when the clouds are gray The crows on the pole won't stop talking away Staring upon your neighbor's unlit lawn Give them an hour and they'll be carrying on
The trees in his yard reach the moon in the sky The roots down below meet a different guy He's sitting around, just biding the time Deep in the city no one's left behind
Waiting 'round for his dreams to come true But we're in the same crowd and it's marching on through Woah-oh-oh, oh damn, another day south of nowhere

Cool lyrics, great vibe. I can "hear" how this would sound with a full arrangement, and I dig the little guitar solo you've got going there.
Sorry bout the 'VID, but your voice sounds good regardless. Are those DI guitars? The solo almost has a mandolin quality to it! I like the raw unadorned sound. It's a catchy bop that stands on its own. Strong strumming and melody. The lyrics paint a very relatable picture, personally. I love the "turning paintings askew" and the tree roots imagery. Good approach all around.
BABY THIS IS SOOOO GOOD YAY!!! it paints such a beautiful picture of what you're trying to capture - incredible work!!!
+1 to your vocals sounding pretty good even while covided. the guitar has a nice bounce to it, and i really like the last line of the chorus. nice work :)
I can definitely hear the Mountain Goats vibes, in the energetic desperation. I feel like this should be in the soundtrack of a late 90s queer indie film. I wanna listen a few times just to digest the lyrics
For being a collection of odds-and-ends, I think it is fairly cohesive lyrically. The one line that I wonder about would be "Deep in the city no one's left behind" but -- honestly -- that could easily be attributed to my just not understanding how it fits, and sometimes a little mystery is nice in a song.
I think I read recently there are 3 to 400 people in the unincorporated region I live. There are places it is near, but there's a 20 to 30-minute drive first and -- more importantly -- there are zero food deliveries here. (The true mark of nowhere.)
It's a lovely little song. Well done!
this is great, I was kinda noodling along with a distorted bass while I listened. nice work!
AHWT is my favorite album! You do that reference justice.
I loved your guitar in this song! I like the juxtaposition of the bright and cheerful guitar melody with the more melancholy lyrics. I hope you feel better from COVID. If this is you sick, I can't wait to hear you when you feel better, because this is great! 🐸
Not so pitchy. I love your use of dynamics in the guitar and the vocal inflection. I like your melody and the vocal is pretty dang good. I especially like the last quatrain in the lyric.
There's so much I like about this, wow. That guitar solo is a delight, and the lyrics are fantastic. Couplets like "There's hundreds of fish swimming just like you / But they're all at work turning paintings askew" put such a picture in my mind, I love it.
