Long Distance Roundabout
by @rshakesp
Liner Notes
First effort this year - I'm writing a collection of songs called '12 Short nonsense songs about love' This one deals with distance relationships and the difficulty they can present. and YES there might be a funny time signature or two (ifkyk)
Lyrics
We make plans In advance That’s what we do On this long distance roundabout
Its up and down Round and round The love we have On this long distance roundabout
Oh I love you yes I do But this distance drives me Round and round and round the bend
Please don’t throw me off Please don’t fling me out Cos I’m in love with you.

I gotta admit when I saw your title I thought about Long Distance Runaround by Yes! (And I actually went and enjoyed a listen to it!) But on to your song!! I really love your melody especially in the "Oh I love you" section!! It had a Beatle-esque sound to me which I really enjoyed! Your vocals sound really good! My only complaint about this lovely song is it is too dang short! But, I solved that problem by listening to it three or four times! It is really good and I enjoyed it very much!!! #tit4tat
The line that stood out to me was "please don't flick me off" at the end. It really stuck in my craw in a good way - provoked thought and feeling. But I misheard it lol! I guess I was unconsciously reaching for a painful personal expression because long distance relationships are exactly how you express them! I'm drawn in by your authentic voice, at times a bit like John Lennon in his mid tenor range. Cheers.
There's a certain odditity to this that I really dig. It's probably the time signatures that in my mind conflict with the whole "nonsense love songs" theme, and the contrast makes it very interesting.
I love that you seem to choose themes and plans for your FAWM albums each year (I've only been aware of you since last year but I loved your concept album last time).
This has such a sweet and catchy melody. I particularly love the 'oh I love you yes I do' section and the lyrics about 'please don't throw me off are great! Really lovely use of the metaphor. Lovely songwriting, the warm guitar and pads mixed with piano all gels super well together to create a great full sound
I really like the interaction between the keys and the vocals both rhythmically and melodically - very cool sound. Your very emotive vocals drew me in. Excellent work - I didn't want it to end so I listened again.
That riff at the start which continues under the first vocals is so weird and wonderful. It sounds like it is about to fall but doesn't like it is about to go out of tune but it does not. How wonderfully captivating. The lyrics present the tumultous nature of long distance simply and effectively. Well done, lots of nuance in under two minutes.
A really sweet tune. I like the backing vocals and the keyboards that come in towards the end. Nice.
What a catchy odd beat dance rhythm! The bridge is already for a musical. Cool idea
So entertaining and interesting in the best possible way. Fantastic backing vocals as well.
Some of those piano notes are going in all directions in the best possible way. It signals the harmony of the relationship is not as harmonious as hoped.
Very clever and made me laugh. I had a listen as my town is ridiculously full of roundabouts, and I sometimes feel I'm never off a roundabout. Worked great with the theme of love, I loved the harmonies. I was thinking about a road roundabout and had completely forgotten about the playground roundabout - don't fling me off made me smile. Enjoyable listen.
