A Letter To Myself

Liner Notes
Life doesn't seem to get easier year to year. In fact, it's quite the opposite. I thought I'd start by writing a letter to myself. Here's the letter that became the song:
Dear Me,
First off, I know how you feel (exactly how you feel). You’ve endured so much, and you’ve been witness to so many trials. Throwing a family into the mix sure hasn’t made it easier. You feel so much pressure to make sure they have a roof over their head, food to eat and to make sure they feel seen and loved. You are self-sacrificing, hard-working, intelligent, empathetic, and caring. You love deeply and are loved.
At this point, you’ve probably come to the conclusion that this is just how life is going to be. It’s just going to be hard. I don’t know if that’s true or not. I hope for you to catch a big break so you can focus on more than just surviving. But I know that you’re prepared to stay hunkered down to weather this storm of a life. Maybe the only thing to do is to adjust your perspective, idk.
Keep breathing. Lean on others. You have room to take refuge from the storm of life. Make sure to sleep enough. Try to eat green things. Keep breathing.
Be ever-patient as you have been. Time will reveal its mysteries to you.
Love,
Yourself
Lyrics
Verse: Dear me, I know just how you feel The pressure’s just too real Somehow you’ve kept it all together
It’s hard To do it all alone When everyone at home They count on you to be so strong
Pre-chorus: Yeah I know how it goes So I want you to know:
Chorus:
Just be brave
Just be kind
Just give yourself some extra time
The rain will fall
The sun will shine
Keep holding on ’til you find that light
Dear me,
You’re gonna be alright.
Love,
Yourself
Verse: Dear me, I won’t give guarantees But life won’t always be This endless storm of just survival
Just try To take it day by day You’re gonna find a way To break through to the other side
Pre-chorus: Yeah I know how it goes And I want you to know:
Chorus: Just be brave Just be kind Just give yourself some extra time The rain will fall The sun will shine Keep holding on ’til you find that light Dear me, You’re gonna be alright. Love, Yourself
Bridge: Keep breathing Keep holding on It’s one moment This path is long Be patient Take time to grow It’s been a day You’re building Rome
Verse: Dear me, I hope you’ll get some sleep And find green things to eat Take this advice from me
Chorus: Just be brave Just be kind Just give yourself some extra time The rain will fall That sun will shine Keep holding on, yeah, you’ll find that light Dear me, You’re gonna be alright. Love, Yourself

What a wonderful song concept, beautifully executed. Not gonna lie, that chorus made me tear up a little :')
This is achingly beautiful, and so well delivered in all aspects. I really resonate with the sentiment. This is one of those "I wish I wrote this" songs.
What an uplifting theme. Really enjoyed seeing the letter in the linear notes in reference to the inspiration and eventual song. The "green things to eat" really stands out. Very clean arraignment and vocals are spot on. Really like the concept of ending the chorus with (as a surprise?) Love, Yourself. Has a double meaning there too as not only do you Love, Me but it also implores one to love yourself.
Wonderful words of encouragement and hope in the midst of the struggle. Great tune, lovely song all around, Josh.
This is beautiful. Brave the storm, my friend. This is the perfect letter to yourself and thank you for sharing it with the rest of us.
So true, all these words! I love your arrangement, those vocal harmonies! 💚💚💚
great song with a great uplifting message thank man. I love your voice. love the background vocals, and the good vibes of this song. great first song. cheers.
I laughed out loud at "try to eat green things" :) - this is so relatable, a great song and concept, and well done! Love your voice, love this melody, love the lyrics... Question...is the "Love, Yourself" intended to double as a call to action: "Love yourself" - Or was that a freudian interpretation on my end? :)
This is just a genuinely beautiful piece of music. I really like the letter to oneself - it's a premise that I've tried (and not really succeeded) to pull off. The "love, yourself / love yourself" conclusion to the chorus is such a simple, yet clever, twist. It's a concrete reminder that pairs well with the more metaphorical (e.g. "It’s been a day / You’re building Rome").
Musically, this is top notch. The melody is perfect with your vocal delivery and those background harmonies. Great writing, fantastic playing and singing, excellent production)
Dear You, You are going to be just fine! xoxo, Another Me
This is great (and a great idea for a song)! The chorus is what I needed to hear (and the bridge too -- including "it's been a day/ you're building Rome, which so nicely makes the big point metaphorically). Also the pre-chorus made me smile (of course I know how it goes; I'm me!) and works really well.
Great melody and lyrics! I really like your vocals and harmonies
Wow fantastic vocals. You’re like cat Stevens or someone. Nice idea for a song and great sentiment. Good job making it so uplifting in the pre choirs and chorus. Very nice work!
What a lovely and healing song with a warm melody. Beautifully performed too. Great song!
