Hold Me

Liner Notes

I sat at my piano and randomly laid my fingers over the keys and the first two chords sounded strange and a bit like Radiohead. I thought maybe I'd have a stab at a falsetto type song so played about a bit and managed to piece this together. The second half was crying out for some strings etc. so I added a few bits and it has a nice swell to it; like breathing. The lyrics then came quite quickly. Getting the vocals right did not! Many takes until I sang it through without my voice (or me) cracking up!

EDIT: I didn't like my falsetto voice as it isn't really my style. I therefore thought I'd try to re-sing it in the very upper part of my voice before going into falsetto and then allow myself to use it only occasionally and I think it is all the better for it. I also gave it an instrumental outro as the last version just ended when the vocals did.

Lyrics

Hold me as I fall asleep, The warmth of you is healing, Close my eyes and count to 10, I concentrate on breathing, Breathing… On and on, Over and over…

Images and falling light, Projected on my eyes, See your face, It starts to change, And disappears in darkness, Darkness, On and on, Over and over…

So pleased I found this in the updated demo thread. You’ve definitely nailed that Radiohead vibe and the vocals are gorgeous. The whole song gave me chills, wonderful stuff

This is a beautiful, inspired song. Really well done. Love the use of the strings in the 2nd half. Your voice needs no excuses. It's awesome!

There are some beautiful tones in this. Piano is lovely. There are some unusual sounds together - and I like what you've done with breathing - and disappears in darkness. The melody is great - gives that feeling of being half awake and half asleep and a bit ethereal in places. #tit4tat

Lovely vocals, great words and love how the strings you've used really help the song build.

It's brilliant.

Oooh I like those funky chords, whatever they may be. Also the melody shift at the end of the verses. Nice job lassoing the envisioned vibe and bringing it home. It’s awesome when a song comes together like that!!

A fading away. Anything from simple sleep to dying: works really well, cinematic in a sparse way.

Oh yes, Radiohead - and you obvs. Beautiful stuff! And from just up the road in Eastbourne teehee!

There is a starkness to this, helped by the reverb on the vocals. The strings accent well when they come in.

Big fan of strange chords with falsetto. You nailed that vibe melting away. Great stuff

Hauntingly beautiful.

Oooh, this is very lovely. Has a very unsettled feel to it with the insistent piano chords and haunting strings. The falsetto voice is executed so beautifully and really suits the song.

Very cool how the second voice weaves in. From your description it seems that the song wrote itself. Very nice, unusual but organic with just the right ingredients
