Élu par cette crapule (elected by this rascal)

by @ambroise

Challenge: PALINDROME

Liner Notes

Challenges: #palindrome and #F_Am

The title is my favorite palindrome in french : “elu par cette crapule” means “elected by this rascal”. The structure is a palindrome : verse A / verse B / verse A ; and so is each of the chords grid : F / F△ / F△ / F on the verses and Am / Am5+ / F / F△ / F△ / F / Am5+ / Am on the chorus.

So chords are only F and Am with twoo alterations : a major seven on the F△ and an augmented fifth on the Am5+.

Lyrics

(english translation below)

Who slipped you into the newspapers That you never crumpled (figuratively: never confronted) Who posted your signs To make a path for you Who forced your photos on me Every time I went out How often the radio Made you talk

Locked up in your bubble insensitive to our cries Elected by this scoundrel Sheltered

I turned the tables I took the case from all sides Interrogative formulas Leave me upside down I've detailed the living forces And I still don't know where You get your prerogatives from It sounds crazy

A really interesting sound on this one. A lot of depth to it, thoughtful. Really like the way you used the two prompts.

Very cool way to accomplish both challenges. It's great the way the French palindrome has a meaning that allows you to explore deeper issues than most of these songs manage to, and the lyrics explore those issues well. I also liked the music, especially the harmonica.

Lovely feel to this ... evokes a certain mood that I love. The lyrics are really clever and well-done. I also like the little solos and harmonica bits.

Wow, well done, you smashed that task! And a great song out if it too. Thanks for the translation though as I wouldn’t have worked it out on my own.

I always love your plays on words. ♥

I love the strange atmosphere of this song - it feels mysterious, witty and oppressive at the same time. Nice work on the double challenge, and is that some Lydian mode in there too?

I love when the tension that builds in the verse resolves to the Am in the chorus. The hard panning of the harmonica and doubled ukulele/guitar? is a wonderful foundation for your vocals here - I always enjoy that you provide the English translation. Great piece!

Im loving the 'recorded on my phone' vocal effect - it is an effect, right? Good song, but it needs bass :)

What an interesting take on the palindrome. I was especially mesmerized by the chord structure. I adore the succesful use of some of the more unconventional voicings. They really work here.
