Wake Up!

Skirmish: Wake up! (@atornberg)

Liner Notes

Initially posted unmixed, and missing the bridge. In full transparency, the song was written and roughed out in an hour, but what's posted now was three hours of work. Gotta have harmonies, though... #political #skirmish #rock #protest

Lyrics

WAKE UP! (c. 2025 raspberry33)

VERSE 1: Can’t have conversations anymore Tired of arguing or being a bore My old ceiling has become my floor It’s time to wake up

VERSE 2: I’m not a prophet, but I can report What’s happening now is the devil’s sport Good luck, taking your claims to court It’s time to wake up

CHORUS: Wake up! This is not a nightmare Wake up! It’s an existential threat Wake up! The preacher is at the wedding Speak now, or forever live with regret!

VERSE 3: Websites are dark and the links greyed out Democracy’s on the brink, there is no doubt We need more people to get angry and shout It’s time to wake up

BRIDGE Incoming, range in doubt, but that’s a plus There’s no help coming….. make that leap it’s up to us

INSTRUMENTAL

VERSE 4: The plans were disclosed by the enemy The flashing lights were there, unexpectedly We thought that we could live with complexity It’s time to wake up It’s time to wake up

This was definitely worth taking the extra time over. I like how the backing vocals are increasingly shouting their responses, and I really like that synth. It might be a worried and troubled theme (hard not to these days) but it doesn't stop it being a very enjoyable listen, and a very timely lyric 👌

You've perfectly captured how so many of us feel today! It's good to get it all out in a song!

Yep. Great light touch and minimalist metronomic beat to a neat reflection on modern times.

I came here for the title - I also have a song called Wake Up, but a different take on it. Great lyrics here - like "My old ceiling has become my floor It’s time to wake up ". Love the echo vocals, the synth work, the groovy bass line and just right drums. I just read your liner notes - and what a great idea - use the skirmish time to create the magic, and then take some time later to flesh it out by adding that powerful bridge, backing vocals and production. Nice synth add in your transition. Love your passionate vocal delivery - these important lyrics really ring out as they should. I think people are waking up and realizing they are in a nightmare. Great song!

Both you and I are on the same page as far as what our country is experiencing. Great production, essential message, very good observations. Good job!

Yes, we need wake up calls like this one. Clever lyrics, and engaging melody and production.

Where can I sign this? What a brilliant wake-up call. I hope it will be heard in the world. (It's up to us - that's so very true.)

Love the whispered/spoken call-and-response "Wake Up!" and the unexpectedly laid-back vibe of this urgent warning! It reminds me of the old adage, "If you want people to really listen, speak softly so they have to lean in." (Thanks for the kind words about "Long, Long Time"! Really appreciate the encouragement)

I love the space in this. Proves the old adage that 70% of a mix is in the arrangement. Love your vocals and cheeky background vocals,. great groove.

@wynia

I feel like a lot of us are waking up more than ever, and some for the first time, such a relevant set of lyrics for our time. I like how the “wake up” gets stronger and stronger and more urgent as the song proceeds

excellent write and great production and performance- this is really an engaging listen and sadly so relevant to whats happening these days...

This is an effective political song which--ignoring immediate relvance--can be applied to whichever side of politics or theology or geopolitics one barracks for. I'm intrigued at how well you get the production in a skirmish time.

@mbmusic

Great lyrics and melody! No regrets listening to this one

@raspberry33 nice job! I tried different apps, but I don't feel confident enough with them. Acoustic guitar one take works better for me when I am under time pressure.

GarageBand, Behringer USB mic, the drums are GarageBand and everything else MIDI by me.

I feel the same. Just remember, lies are still lies and power can only be taken from you if you relinquish it. How did you record the track?
