I think t his is the anniversary of t he Beatles performing on Ed Sullivan in 1964. Here is my story. #mandolin #acoustic #fastwrite

Lyrics

1964 [Verse 1] we gathered 'round the tv on a saturday night watching the hockey game , waiting for the fights it was the only entertainment of the year we came together as a family right there

[verse 2] my parents each had their own easy chairs on the sofa, my siblings all lined up in pairs sometimes I'd lay on the floor, a little too close wwatching in silence like we were comatose.

[chorus] the new tv came into the living room impatient for the box set to warm up soon then wiggled the antenna to make it clear when I was a kid, the best times of the year

[verse 3] we lived out in the country, minimal reception dad got a big antenna for picture perfection the black and white picture came in much clearer but we all wished the picture could be whole lot bigger

[verse 4] on sunday night we would do the chores fast started to watch the Ed Sullivan broadcast i remember the comedians and musical groups the jugglers and dancers and animal troops.

[verse 5] it was 1964.and I watched The Beatles , the Fab Four, right there on my living room floor She Loves Me, yeah yeah yeah Who could ask for anything more?

As a child of the 60s I can relate. Great lyric, and looks like you have had a productive February!

Wonderful details full of good family memories! Delightful nostalgia! Takes me back to 1964 and our living room in the country as we all watched the TV as well! I wasn’t allowed to watch the Beatles though - those radical boys with long hair!

What a sweet picture of a family and how technology and popular culture created a new center, though maybe also split the kids and the parents by the end of verse 5?

I can totally relate to this song.. Rabbit ears and trying to get a clearer picture, Watching hockey night in Canada with my grandpa.. Good job Linda

Very nice slice of life piece. I definitely remember the antennae wriggling, although ours was on the roof. My dad used to go up to adjust it and we had to form a sort of daisy chain of people shouting if it was getting clearer or worse :D This was a nice listen, brought back some memories.

Nice slice of life! Old-timey, and great vocals and mandolin. I'm just old enough to barely remember that Ed Sullivan broadcast. And wiggling the TV antenna and twisting the fine tuning dial to fix the picture. And watching the guy with the spinning plates betting that he'd drop one. Yes, this brings back the memories.

What a splendid memory! It brought back many memories for me... I can almost smell the heated tubes (kind of miss that small...) A fine jaunty rhythm carries the story along.
