The third character exposé track from the novel I've been working on since before Christmas. This one is the theme song of the novel's main character's second incarnation: Miranda Baxter. The immortal that was Tony Degagné takes over Miranda's body sometime between the end of Chapter 1 & the beginning of Chapter 2 in the book. We first meet Miranda when she is still mortal & she meets Tony for the first time. We find out that she owns a used bookstore, but the store is suffering hard times because of the debts she owes to some unsavoury loan sharks. Miranda decides to sell her soul to what she calls a Demon (actually a Fallen Immortal who buys & sells mortal lives), which the Immortal inhabiting Tony's body has purchased in order to help him Fall. But once Tony becomes Miranda, his hopes of peace beyond the reach of the Protomaton are quickly doused. People from his old life begin to appear, threatening her new found freedom.
Similar to the other OST tracks, this is built entirely in Jeskola Buzz using samples from Loopcloud & the lovely tones of DSK The Grand, & DSK BassZ VSTi's. I controlled both the Matilde Tracker & DSK The Grand using an Akai MPK Mini 3, recording the MIDI directly into Buzz - which was a bit of a first for me. I'm really pleased with how this all came together once I added the vocal samples. I couldn't have asked for this to work out better. I hope you enjoy!

Lyrics
I move past the fear of losing everything I move past the fear of losing everything
Oh no, I won't break apart this time It took too much time Too much time To get to a place where I feel fine So many days went by I won't go back to when I was fine Always takes so long Moving forward I won't return Nightime turns to day I won't break apart again I won't break apart again Oh ya ya yeah
I move past the fear of losing everything I move past the fear of losing everything I still got a lot to learn ya ya ya I still got a lot to learn ya ya ya
============
The image was created in Lego Digital Designer. It depicts a scene from Chapter 2 of the book where Tony Degagné's daughter Nicole comes into Miranda's used bookstore to apply for a part time job.

Proper sense of menace building through this, and the vocal loops really cap it off. I'm not sure I'd want to be living in her shoes..!
This has a marching menace feel in it, some intense scenes happening while this music plays over.
I love this! The story and the music together build an interesting world. The piano theme reminds me a lot of old video game themes. It's strange and soothing and menacing all at once!
I love that your novel is finding its way into music! I like the repetition of the line “I move past the fear of losing everything” followed by “I still got a lot to learn ya ya ya”. I can relate!
The singing caught me by surprise, as the other tracks were spoken voice. Clever change, it's always effective to bring the unexpected. This character seems more ingenuous than the ones we already know. While being as resolute, she kind of has some naivety, and that is her strength, obviously. Another great track!
Interesting use of the samples, that's some tricky audio carpentry. Very theatrical feeling to this with the overlapping vocals, I'm picturing a bare spotlight scene amongst the stacks of the bookstore. Lots of emotion in the mournful keys and stripped-down arrangement. Intriguing story-line!
