Liz provided another set of lyrics that caught my attention. By virtue of the title, I felt it should have a kind of slow, haunting feeling. I set my tempo by the chorus, then found that the verse had very sharp, short syllables in quick succession making the verse seem more rapid than it really is. To slow it down for the verse would have made the chorus too slow, so the chorus won the tempo war.
From the musical standpoint, it is different for me in two ways. It only uses three chords and I never write three-chord songs. And the only percussion is a taiko drum, two beats per bar.
Liz says: Paul did a phenomenal job bringing these words to life with his incredible musical treatment and delivery of the lyrics. I’m impressed and grateful!

I really like the short almost classical interludes and the sense of regret in the lyrics are palpable...another great alliance of creativity!

The tempo is great for the verses. Gives it a bit of a twisted cabaret feel to it. Love the strings. The chorus is deceptively catchy also. Gonna be singing this one for a while after it’s finished. Great song

Haunting and effective! I like how the slow rhythm of the chorus lyric contrasts with the faster pace of the verses. Your voice is just right for the words
