48 Hours in Texas
by @carleybaer
Liner Notes
Last summer we were caught in the Crowdstrike global shutdown halfway between Milwaukee and Portland. It was a wild time at the DFW airport but the sign of a good life partner is how well you make lemons out of lemonade. I think we did pretty good.
Lyrics
It was a garden variety standard flight Didn’t think that we would be up half the night But the layover went longer than we would've liked ‘Bout 5am we found we’d gotten Crowdstrike'd It was a bit of a hit to the solar plexus That was the start of 48 hours in Texas
Well the first hotel couldn’t let us in They said “go across the highway and try again” So we crossed the highway and our fingers too They said “we’ll take your money but keys we can’t do” “But in an hour we start our continental breakfast” “Hope you enjoy your 48 hours in Texas”
Well we slept like trash and woke at noon We had to find a way to spend our day, and soon Then we realized if we left in five We’d get to Fort Worth just in time for the cattle drive
So we got dropped off and we bought some beers And we watched the cowboys and the long-horn steers I bought a hat and we had tacos too We did everything the tourist pamphlet said to do But that yeehaw vibe was kinda infectious We were starting to enjoy our 48 hours in Texas
Well the end of the story is plain to see We did manage to get out of there eventually Flew out on standby, one by one Goodbye to Shiner and the Texas Sun Next time a software engineer’s a little bit reckless I hope we get another 48 hours in Texas

This is a totally brilliant track on every level...massive smile on my face to every line...congrats on such a standout song!
Love the high Texas. The song is so infectious and your vocals roll along like well oiled machine. Nice rhyming too. Cheered me up :)
As a frequent traveler, I certainly can relate to this song. Great storytelling with these lyrics loved it.
What wonderful storytelling! It pulls you along and doesn't let you go. What a wonderful hook, it's addictive!
As a Texan I can say you got this! Great song!!!
As someone who lives in DFW I can say you got the vibe right. This is a fun song! I can see the local bars two-stepping to this. Cheers!
Haha!! Boy, am I ever glad you got stuck in Texas for 48 hours. If not, we never have this wildly, fun, infectious, reckless song! As you can see, I loved all the rhymes, and that bouncy tune is just about perfect. Carly, I can’t tell you how much I’ve been enjoying your songs this FAWM!☺️. And hats off to you for the win!
Great write about this messed up situation. I'm bopping around and following the lyrics with great intereest. You have such a good phrasing. Who thought that "48 hours in Texas" is such a sweet phrase?
The story is one you will be telling your grandchildren, and the Texas rhymes are brilliance!
This is SO GOOD. The rhymes with ‘Texas’ were hilarious. Such a good solid piece of song writing. Your phrasing was immaculate and really brought the comedy of the song to life. Absolutely adorable. This is a hit in the making!
Oh, man. This is so good. Love the country kicker feel. Glad you managed to turn what could have been a disaster to some into an adventure. Yeehaw!!
Nice write! "Slept like trash" is dead solid perfect.
I've spent more than my share of nights in unplanned airport overnights -- that your song made me smile about them is a big win.
No need to say goodbye to Shiner (the beer, not the town, 'coz you didn't get that far south in your layover): you can find it pretty much nationwide these days at Total Wine. :)
I grew up in Fort Worth, and still travel to D/FW to see my folks There is an amazing Texas barbecue place (Cooper's) just off the light rail line from D/FW to downtown, which is totally worth a visit in your next 48 hours.
