Pianist, guitarist, and lifetime singer who thinks music is one of God's best ideas!

This is my 10th FAWM, and, as always, I come into February with much hope and trepidation. I have a lot of things churning around in my brain and heart right now, so maybe I’ll get some of it out musically. And just maybe, some of it will resonate with a few others. It’s also such a pleasure to listen to as many of you as I can, and to find some songs that resonate in my heart as well. Good luck to us all, and may this be a magical and meaningful month for everyone! Looking forward to sharing in all the talent, encouragement, and goodwill that abounds here.

UPDATE: I’m having a hard time getting started this year. Nixed my first song entirely, and am now stuck on my second. It’s not a perfection thing, I think it’s heavy-hearted, no motivation thing from what is going on in this country. Anyone else feeling this way?

Aw, thank you so much for your kind message and comments! I wish the site were going to be up longer as well. There is SO much music I haven't had a chance to hear yet. I was hoping to get to 500 comments, but I've been so busy, since I started a new job. I've been listening a LOT today since I didn't have to work, and wish we'd at least have the whole weekend! Anyway, I'll be back next year, and I look forward to hearing you again. I'm currently doing 100 Days of Ukulele, so I've got 10 of my songs from last month up on YouTube already and I'm planning to put all the rest of them up as well haha.

I don't know if you were interested in doing a summer challenge or not, but since the official one is not happening, I've been gathering names and emails for people who want to do an unofficial one. Drop me an email if you're interested. :)

Oh, thank you! It was great to get to know your voice. See you next year!

Thanks, Deb, I appreciate all those kind comments about my lyrics. Thanks for taking time to read through them all, really, that means a lot to me.

Timing doesn’t matter. I always feel like I’m behind during FAWM. Hard to do it justice and still do Life. A big church project overlapped FAWM, unfortunately, plus the doge rogues et al. But we both got it done and “Happiness” is a winner. It brings we a smile whenever I listen to it! 😁

Just when FAWM has wound down I find myself more in the writing groove. Oh well. There’s always next year!

Deb! Thank you so much. I've been kind of out of it with work and stuff, but I appreciate the listens, comments and you!

@janeg

Thanks so much for your recent four comments on my songs! I especially appreciate people who stick around in March to listen and comment.

Thanks for the birthday greetings! I hope your birthday was fun too!

As I'm out listening, I'm often finding you were the last commenter. No, really, I'm not following you around the website...

@bjunker

Thanks for the really great comments on Cornelia! My concern is that the song feels a bit monotonous, but given your comments on the lyrics I will probably concentrate more on melodic variation etc. as I refine it.

Thanks for the kind words for It Isn't That She Doesn't Love Me! It definitely is a jukeboxy tune... Here's that comedy bit about Taylor Swift songs: https://www.instagram.com/reel/DFnTK3FuNJ5/?igsh=YjNvZnM2djlzNWRk

Thanks, Deb. That's lovely. Currently trying to push through to 14, but I'll make sure to check 'Old Photos' (and more) out in the calm of March!

Yay for your music for Happiness! It’s fun and just the light touch that was needed. Love the hint of argumentation in the “pancakes are better line.” (There’s already been a dissenting opinion on this 😁.)

Thanks for sharing your musical skills! Would you mind sending me a sound file as I like to keep my own private collection of my collabs. Thanks!

Hi @kadmad202, thanks for listening. I love that song and it was the most fun to do making the lyrics fit to a consistent tune. I feel like it's about something, but I have no idea what, which is a quality a lot of my favourite songs have. I also feel like this is really a threeway colaboration, because the lyrics came from a skirmish by @robinleaf, a list of bizarre song titles to choose from that the incomparable @hummingbear SOMEHOW managed to put all together into a song.

Yes, I’d love to hear Happiness from you!

❤️ Here’s to all the encouragement, support, and being there for one another that is rising in these times.

I hear that, friend- there is so much turmoil right now, both around and within. I feel it too, and that big question of how to live faithfully when there is so much to mourn and so much is changing. I do find encouragement from reflecting on the example of other brothers and sisters who persevered hopefully through dark times in the past. God help us to look to His light and let it shine through us in these days. ❤️

Read your update, yes I had a very hard time getting into things this year. Hard to write from a calm and constructive perspective when the world is all a-roil.

There's a T evening and W afternoon Zoom and that did help. Got good encouragement and advice. It helped to write a couple songs to vent some of the feelings. Over the weekend I was able to write some other things, but I'm still not getting the pleasure I usually do out of FAWM. But there's still time.

Have you listened to https://write.fawm.org/songs/306101?highlight=steal+my+joy ? Recommend it!

Thanks for listening and leaving such a nice comment on my song Grace. I appreciate it.

Thanks for your comment on my GB song! I’m always happy to get together and share what I know and learn from you! Also let me know if you are interested in a collab this FAWM, if so let me know if there is a theme or topic or genre I could write!

Right there with you on the difficulty of songwriting in this moment. The last time the US did this to ourselves I got mad and wrote an entire political album during FAWM (that I released and used as a fundraiser for the ACLU). This time I'm mostly feeling despair, and going mostly personal instead of political -- I guess I feel like I can't let myself get as angry (or despondent) as I would need to to face all of that (in songwriting). Good luck! (and thank for the comments).

Slow starters anonymous, we'll start a club! But if it's anonymous, we won't know who's in it. Nonetheless, I'm recommending a secret handshake. Whoops, that was a typo, what I meant was a chocolate milkshake!

[avatar]

Thanks for listening to my dumb and dumber song :) Wasn't the #firstfruits I was expecting from myself either lol.

Happy birthday!

So glad you're back, Deb. It's a year for roiling brains and hearts, isn't it? Let the creative processing begin.

I've got a new computer, so I only got my email set up last night. There are a few accessibility issues to finesse before I can really start exercising my brain. 😁

Hey Deb! So good to see you you back. I'm looking forward to your creativity. Mr Collie is realizing that music is what I'm doing these days, and he's slowly relaxing into it. But there could always be a cameo! Happy FAWMing!
