Hurtling Down the Highway

by @motorcitymusicman · @moggzy

Liner Notes

This song arose out of the Random Collaboration forum thread. @moggzy and I were paired up. He wrote this excellent piece of music. It sounded to me like a driving song, so I wrote the words below to accompany the song. Unfortunately, neither of us can sing, so right now there are no vocals for the song. If anyone is interested in singing the lyrics, please let either of us know. Thanks!

Lyrics

Verse One (roughly 0:00 – 0:28):

Up at dawn and get to work you’re always on my mind The thought of seeing you again relieves the daily grind Today lasted forever, I know you know how I feel I had to get out of there and get behind the wheel

Chorus One (roughly 0:29 – 1:07)

Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway

I’ve worked all week for this So I could leave on Friday I’m gonna make it there I’m gonna make it my way

Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway

Post-chorus (roughly 1:08 – 1:26)

Speed and wind, it’s good to be alive You’ll be waiting at the end of my drive

Instrumental break (roughly 1:27 – 1:45)

Verse Two (roughly 1:46 - 2:23):

Another cup of coffee, that’ll keep me goin’ a while I keep goin' faster as I check off every mile Push the pedal to the floor, I've got to up my speed Signs keep whizzing by me but too fast for me to read Passing people left and right, it’s like I’m in a race Just a few more hours and I get to see your face

Pre-chorus (roughly 2:24 – 2:43)

Speed and wind, it’s good to be alive You’ll be waiting at the end of my drive

Chorus Two (roughly 2:24 – 3:22)

Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway

I’ve worked all week for this So I could leave on Friday I’m gonna make it there I’m gonna make it my way

Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the Hurtlin’ down the highway

Definitely sounds like a driving song. The lyrics represent the feeling of being in a hurry very well. Is that a banjo plaing in the verses? How very unique instrumentation. 10/10 would rock on while hurtling down a highway.

Got the tracks. Hopefully I'll record them this afternoon/evening and get them out to you

Yes, @beacon - You should! I'm still recovering from losing my voice last week.

Very cool. If @savvyaz hasn't taken this up, and I have time, I'd be happy to give these lyrics a try on this pretty epic instrumentation.

Yeah, I can hear "driving song" in that excellent music track; from the opening, I'd specifically say driving through the Western desert through the scorching hear. The music has a terrific muscularity to it, which the lyrics do a great job capturing. This is a man of few words. He's working for Friday, to make his way to his lady. And nothing, absolutely nothing, is going to stop him!
