Skirmish: Birthday Songs (@dudachris)Liner Notes
#skirmish #birthday songs Oh, the clock keeps ticking faster and faster on these skirmishes. This is definitely not finished, but it's a start. This is about a couple that once loved the same music, but have gone down different rabbit holes. But, for a birthday present, the musician echoes punk and demo and rap and thrash and glitter cowboy (whatever that is) to please his love with what she likes.

MUSICAL GIFT (c) 2025 raspberry33
VERSE 1: We grew up listening to all the same radio stations Sharing a taste for the British Invasion and soul Isn’t it funny now - that we’re older and wiser
CHORUS: We have gone different ways down the rabbit hole You like what you like, and I will not drag you Thru punk, and emo self-control So here’s laid back rock – my musical gift to you
VERSE 2: Such is the circumstances we find ourselves in today Taste is a special thing no one should take it away Isn’t it funny now - that we’re older and wiser
CHORUS: We have gone different ways following what we enjoy You like what you like, and I will not drag you Thru thrash and rap and glitter cowboy So here’s some laid back rock – my musical gift to you

For me this opened into a musing on the ways that convenience conflicts with community. I have my own specific music now instead of sharing the language of mixtapes and the radio with friends and strangers. And there’s a whole aspect of what we share in relationships. Great skirmish.
This is really cool the intro reminds me of Steely Dan... Great groove and vibe - Great write, vox, performance and production! Write on!
This is so thoughtful. I love the warm recording and retro vibe. Smooth bass and keyboards. Oh! and marimba? This is just really well put together,
I might have been thinking about Glen Campbell's Rhinestone Cowboy, but my taste is more towards Glitter Rock like T. Rex or Mott the Hoople. Or subconsciously Cowboy Carter? Different strokes for different folks...
This is great, what a treat! Taste is indeed special, individual indeed. Wait-Glitter cowboy?! I need more info.
This is so sweet. The musical genre curiosities and differences throughout are fun to reflect on. Great write 👏
This was really charming - I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it reminded me of - someone said Steely Dan below which is a good shout - my wife said it reminded her of something from a Muppets movie - not a criticism, we love the Muppets!
