Liner Notes

Used the "Grow" prompt to write about coming out of many years of depression... thanks @ragbag ! My first song on piano of this FAWM. I just love those gospelly chords. #gospel #piano

Lyrics

Verse 1: The roots grew stagnant that winter And that winter lasted far too many years It was a decade of snowstorms and wind chill Only watered by tears

But now a shy sun’s emerging And I am proud to tell you, friend My life force is surging I’m growing again

Chorus: I didn’t know I had a long way to grow Don’t think I’ll ever quit Spent a decade thinking this was it But now I’m growing again

Verse 2: Who knew that beneath the frost heaves I still could put up a fight Now I’m stretching my arms to the treetops Feeling so damed alive

Chorus: I didn’t know I had a long way to grow Don’t think I’ll ever quit Spent a decade thinking this was it But now I’m growing again

Verse 3: Now I’m someone I always wanted But never thought I could be Made my home in an old growth forest I’m a sequoia tree

Chorus: I didn’t know I had a long way to grow Don’t think I’ll ever quit Spent a decade thinking this was it But now I’m growing again Spent a decade thinking this was it But now I’m growing again

Oh my goodness....your voice.... These are beautiful lyrics and the music...one of those where I cannot believe it was written and recorded in an hour. Amazing.

@ragbag

I hear Billy Joel piano vibes in this. Great sound, great voice, and I love the lyrics too. fab. :-)

Your voice is insanely beautiful - great lyrics - I really love the words in first verse which is so well thought out and I love how you go from stagnant roots to a sequoia tree - such a powerful contrast. Piano playing is fab and the gospel feel suits it really well. Thank you.

This is gorgeously written and performed! You've threaded the needle perfectly on a personal story that taps into the universal human experience. Really beautiful work, especially impressive for a skirmish!!

@gordon

Strong personal lyrics, beautifully delivered. Love that piano work too, those Gospel chords really work well with the subject matter. I think many of us will relate to this. Thanks so much for posting.
