Skirmish: When I was (@geercom)

Liner Notes

Were things better back then (when I was your age)? This is mostly based on actual memories from the last century - although I never had disco boots! #when I was @geercom #skirmish #rock #nostalgia #dark

Lyrics

When I Was Your Age (c) 2025 raspberry33

Verse 1: I rode a Stingray bike when I was your age And I learned how to fight when I was your age British bands on the radio building castles in the snow Dirty jokes for those in the know…. And trading baseball cards when I was your age

Verse 2: And I learned how to drive when I was your age Took chances and survived when I was your age Vietnam was in the air Revolution everywhere Which girl had the nicest hair…. And who should I ask to the prom When I was your age

Bridge: You could fill up your car, back then at 30 cents a gallon Plead with your mom and dad for a chance to drive the station wagon Back then, you saved up for a car of your own A Mustang or Camaro driven by testosterone…and plent unleaded

Verse 3: I had disco boots when I was your age Wore pastel leisure suits when I was your age Speeding with blind ambition willing to trash tradition Tried to be a musician… Mostly played vinyl When I was your age

Instrumental (8 bars)

Verse 4: Had a budding career when I was you age Started drinking better beer when I was your age Married, with a family bought a house with a balcony Barely held on to my sanity…. Decisions bad and good when I was your age

Bridge: Computers ran banks back then; didn’t spy on your phone If your friends weren’t face to face then you were on your own If you didn’t drive back then, you walked or took the bus Back then the world belonged to us… not just the 1%

Oh, I'm so glad I'm still checking out FAWMers I haven't heard before, in these last two days before FAWM shuts down for the year. This is a fabulous song! I love this musical accompaniment, especially that organ (and I don't usually like organ). Your melody is catchy and, with this lyric, very engaging. I love the bluesy feel of this song. So well performed, so thoroughly enjoyable, all of it!

I love when that classic synth sound comes in, and that electric guitar sounds so so cool. The radio vocals, the old school cool vibes. Did I just hear a nod to Jimi Hendrix? I love all of this.

The lyrics bring back many menories for me, like the tongue in cheekness of them. I love the music, it's melodies and it's production are very reminiscent of that era too. Really enjoyable. :-)

Love the vibe of your track here! And the combo of minor chords and humor is really intriguing. Nice work!

Ooh, I’m digging the vibey opening. Very cool. I like the sort of dark tone.

Love the concept. Instrumentation is solid too. Great job getting this all done! Love the Wurlitzer and guitar interactions were my favorite part, but I honestly loved most of it. I think the vocals mixing needs more work if you move this past skirmish, but you have a wonderful track in this.

This is excellent. You and I went with the same angle (and song title) but yours is a lot more sophisticated!
