All the FAWM songwriting challenges and I have to put this up! " Create a homemade song backed entirely by your homemade instrument(s) You don't have to use homemade recording gear, mind you! Tag it #homemade". https://write.fawm.org/forums/3083

And then, of course, lose the recording and forget about it. Now I find it and I'm unimpressed, but in the true FAWM spirit of putting everything up: the homemade instruments are the cigar box guitar, the UPVC electrical conduit whistle in G, and the claves, verily cut from 1" beech dowel. All are shed-built. So, alas, is the melody which I find uninspiring I have added a little shimmer (courtesy stargazer) to it in the hopes of improving, but whereas @dragondreams can coax additional joy and wonder with that device from his fippling, I cannot scale those empyrean heights.

I don't know, this sounds pretty cool I think! The whistle sounds really pretty actually. I'm with @sheilerk - this is lovely and totally would fit in at a ren faire.

There is something truly wonderful about the fluctuations and imperfections of things homemade. Not the refined, overly-smoothed sounds standardized by digital duplication. This was wonderous to listen to in its authenticity.

Have you ever heard the FAWM trope “never apologize”? 😉 Despite your protestations, this was delightful to listen to.

Well, for all of your bellyaching about this lovely little song, I think it's wonderful. It sounds like something I'd go to a Renn faire to hear. Btw, I'll have to come back to hear more. I just finally got home from the states, where I had family time, but no FAWM time, so if I expect to make it to 14 I need to get cracking!

Home made whistle... Digs out some conduit pipe. This is lovely. Kind of shows that I'm Ye Olden Days all instruments were hand made from whatever there was available because this certainly has a medieval quality to it. Obviously helped by the mode used...

Quite calming, really.

Wow, I was not prepared to hear something this haunting and beautiful from homemade instruments. There is something earthy and visceral in the textures.

Nice steadying flute! Yup sure has that medievil feel. Really nicely layered piece, I see the dancers, bow and end!

This sounds really cool. I wish you could get cigar box guitars in Germany because I’m not good with crafting. It reminds me of some Irish or Scottish folk songs I’ve heard great work

@mikeb

This is great, I could imagine a trio playing it at a Renn Faire. Nice that you can make instruments to do this!

@heather

This has a medieval, Celtic feel to me - what's not to like? Not everything has to be empyrean. Sometimes it can be a humble village on market day and that's fine too.

nothing wrong with a traditional melody. sounds like a cross beteen andean and irish flute. quite nice to wake up to on a saturday morning.
