Never Was A Cool Kid

Imposter/outsider syndrome has followed me most of my life. As a kid I had dorky tendencies, I was a full-on horse girl, I moved schools at a formative age and have felt like an outsider in literally every situation ever since. I know now that the plot twist is that the nerdy kids were cool all along, and I'm better at letting my insecurities voice their concerns without giving them much credence. I'm also fairly sure that I'm ripping off hugely popular artists like Taylor Swift and Harry Styles to underscore that I'm not cool. I guess maybe that means I've finally arrived.
Lyrics
I never was a cool kid Kind of a weirdo, liked to stay in my room Singing, drawing pictures Then we moved to a new town I had to start again And learn a new school, new life, new friends
I never was a cool kid Hanging with grownups, and I’d listen to the way they’d shoot the shit Grounded all the time, never did my homework Never carried myself like the cool kids did
A long and winding road rolled out from under us And I took my time doing the things that everybody did From this side of time I find it ponderous That I made it through and I can do what the cool kids do Because I never was a cool kid
Never was a cool kid And that shit sticks with you even when you make friends and a name for yourself Always a little outside, a bit left of center Always sorta kinda wishing you were someone else

Yeah, so not original, but damn it's authentic. Great bop. Gonna make sure my daughter hears this.
Yup, I can hear just a smidge of Taylor in this song and it completely works, especially with the self-conscious slant of the lyrics! Great music and production and so very relatable! I was just thinking about the fact that I often still wish I were someone else...
Nerdy is cool! That's what I keep telling myself anyway. Nice beat. And I bet the cool kids don't write catchy tunes like this one.
wow. this is not typically the kind of music that i listen to but you have successfully created a hit sounding pop song. catchy. cool lyrics. great harmonies. very well produced. excellent.
Omg I really LOVE the unexpected backing vocal behind "That I made it through..."
