Keith Richards, Dick Van Dyke And God

Liner Notes

*** Version 2 with the second verse it needed. ***

Given the title, I thought it was time to revive the #keef hashtag - which meant learning the song again, but to be fair it sounds better.

If you don't know, #keef tuning is open G - (blank)GDGBD like a banjo, and no I didn't take the low E off, I tuned it to D and tried not to play it, like a normal person.

Lyrics

v1 I read the news today To see what's wrong and right In a world of grey It's there in black and white But it's too much I know that I should fight But I just turn to the obituary page

v2 It's the one thing That'll never ever change When the bell rings There's no escape Winner or loser Sinner or saint We all end up on the same page

ch Another one gone Read the obituary Outlived by Keith Richards Dick van Dyke and God Sing a last song Pay for the ferry See the last picture Of someone you'd forgot

v3 When you're our age You can't turn the page On your diary Without one of those days Border black A heart and a name You look back Yesterday was the same

ch

bridge So long Marianne Rick from the Jam Denis Law, finger in the air So long Sam Moore, the soul man Look up and the pictures are still there

v4 If you know me You'll know who I'm talking about And if you don't Then you can work it out But it's not about me, anyway Sometimes we're just counting the days

The grim reaper's been working overtime on my heroes and icons this year, it seems. You have a much more compassionate and celebratory take on recent deaths than me, even to the point of fitting in a splendid punchline; mine just got called "dark"...

Extra bonus points for working in Malcolm's tuning, too!

Clever, wry, tongue firmly in cheek. Good work ... though you're showing your age (mine too) by referencing an actual newspaper.

Great tribute to those past and the irony in the case of #Keef. Loved the title and the concept.

Clever and fun concept that is becoming more noticeable day by day, very fun an energetic performance. It's also an endearing tribute to those we've lost from our musical universe.
