Interesting prompt. (My Life With... hosted by @fairplay). I haven't seen that French film, but Google tells me it's one of a pair - told from the wife's and the husband's perspectives. I chose the Francois option, and yes, as a morning DJ, I used to play a special song for her at 9:45 AM, even after the program director said "enough, already!" Such is love. Lyrics up in skirmish time - demo took a bit longer. #singersongwriter #lovesong #skirmish #guywithguitar
Lyrics
MY LIFE WITH LAYLA (c) 2025 raspberry33
VERSE 1: Meeting and greeting – the memories still clear Courtship at a coffee shop on the highway Dinner where peanut shells littered the floor A stolen kiss outside her parent’s doorway
VERSE 2: She’s a late sleeper – before we lived together I was dee-jay – doing morning drive I knew she’d turn on the radio as soon as she woke That’s why I always played Layla at 9:45
CHORUS:
My life with Layla – it’s been so good
More than I ever deserved
My life with Layla – I wish I could
Drink from that bottle of memories
Stored in my brain
VERSE 2: Fast-forward two years – and we’re suddenly married Moving to flyover country and making new friends Bar keeps and artists – and many musicians Look back and see it now, through a quite different lens
CHROUS
BRIDGE:
Two characters in a cast of a million
But blessed with compatability
Two commonplace people in a plebian world
Loving like true nobility
INSTRUMENTAL
VERSE 3:
Layla’s a love song, but also a name
Each tells a story in several volumes
Passion and fashion and a tranquil coda
You get what you see – not just colorful costumes
CHORUS

The song structure works really well here. It's got all the right pieces, in a very satisfying order. I like it. Good luck with musicifying it! 😀
[ref. liner notes: you might want to check tomorrows prompt too - same time, same place] - hope you can make this into a song - the Layla-character and your relation seems to be full off sparks for each other still...
I really liked the line about playing Layla at 9:45 every morning. Nice job.
…great! - happy you could come back and make a very nice song - there is a good tension in the melody and especially the presentation - well done!…
