The Mountain

Liner Notes

I wrote the first two verses sometime last year but had no idea what they were about and had no music. So for FAWM this year, I decided what the song was about, came up with a chorus, wrote a third verse, and came up with the music. Almost gave up on it but finally got it to this point and decided that was good enough. Recorded on my bed with my phone's GarageBand app -- 1 acoustic rhythm guitar, 2 tracks of electric guitar, and a third track of electric guitar pretending to be a bass guitar, one main vocal track, one doubling vocal track, and a third vocal track for the chorus. #folk #rock #started-as-acoustic-only-song #wish-it-had-drums

Lyrics

The mountain was hard Stopping me cold I couldn't climb to the sky I couldn't keep hold

These muscles of mine Are wearing me down My fingers are slipping Don't look at the ground

CHORUS: But climb I must and climb I do All the way, all the way, to get back to you But climb I must and climb I do All the way To you

The mountain, I built it Built it from my mistakes There's no way around it There's no way for it to break

(Chorus) (Break) (Chorus)

I hear the hike pace in your tempo and drive. I love that the mountain is revealed to be built from your mistakes, something internal. I feel this!

Mountain climber song. Or is it? Dig it. Thought the third verse was a great addition, as it serves as a typical bridge would of here is the truth laid bare, and it does that well, "i built it / built it from my mistakes". I love the chorus / break / chorus structure, really sets up for the future work and I can already hear a sick break in my head, as the instrumentation is great throughout. Something about the tone, the tone just wants to soar. Great job on this. Glad you broke it back up.

That chorus is really nice. It has that crucial sing along quality to it. I like this a lot. The mountain allegory is also nice in its many meanings.

I love the acoustic intro; and the layering of other instruments once they come in.

I wish it had drums to. I can hear them in my head. I love this a lot! Especially the imagery of building a mountain from mistakes.
